(3,430 posts)Some activists say a similar, unprovoked incident happened to a man named A'Vonta Williams a little more than a year ago.
Williams was reportedly shot multiple times by a white man in a pickup truck while driving near that same Walmart on Wallisville. Williams recovered from his injuries.
Activists say they don't believe the two shootings are a coincidence, and that's why they're concerned about Jazmine's case.
The activists spoke outside of the sheriff's office Wednesday morning, calling on the community to take action in finding the shooter in Sunday's incident.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office responded, explaining the weapon, vehicle and suspect description from Williams' case did not match Jazmine's shooter. The 2017 shooting suspect's truck was described as a white or gray/silver Ford pickup, which is a different color from the Barnes' case. They say there was no mention of facial hair in the suspect's description from 2017, and a different weapon was used.
The sheriff's office says they did an exhaustive search for the suspect

Sorry, I don't mean to derail the topic, but I'm impressed and flabbergasted how selfless and caring her tweet stream is!

(118,749 posts)Sometimes i don't see what is right in front of me because I'm into context. Sometimes seeing context informs me. Sometimes not. Jaszmine Barnes' murder struck me as another white supremacist doing terrorism when I first heard about it. Horrid that a family was shot at and one person died. But i am in canada and that gives me emotional distance. A few days later i was thrilled to see the public stepping up and putting money up to find her killer. Followed that story of the public stepping up the other day because I like that. Today's thread is about trying to keep this in the news. I thought it would go viral. It was already up in lots of places. Guess I came late to the event.
