I'm thinking I would not hate the whole thing near as much if all the puppets looked like his. At least it's not supposed to resemble a live human.

All those other puppets were pure evil disguised as friendly wood people - every last one of them.

ETA: Your first answer makes good sense.

That is some scary shit for kids. Worse than clowns.

My dad used to call me into the TV room and make me watch whenever one (ventriloquist) came on. Somehow he was under the impression I liked them. And for some inexplicable reason I never corrected him.

The guy who played Perry White in the Superman movie, not Uncle Fester from the Addams Family.

The only thing that would make the clown in IT scarier/creepier would be if he had a dummy.

.... And they became scared or started crying while watching darci Lynne perform, I would seriously have to question my parenting skills. That's what I would call some scary shit.

Darci Lynne is an incredibly talented young lady, and absolutely deserved to win the AGT competition.

be pretty popular on the comedy circuit and with Darci Lynne winning AGT I'd say it might even be making a bit of a comeback.

Trump is depressed. Nothing is going his way, and he's feeling pressure from all side and feels trapped in the White House. He has to get out just for a few hours. Normally, he wouldn't walk anywhere, but he's desperate. So he disguises himself and slips out of the White House and walks around downtown DC and finds a comedy club. He's bushed and decides to go in. The main act is a ventriloquist, and his routine is nothing but insulting Trump and making jokes about how stupid he is. Trump manages to sit through five minutes of this before he jumps to his feet, rips off his disguise, and yells, "I'm the president, okay? And I don't find what you're doing funny, okay? I think I deserve a little bit more respect than this, okay? You have no class, okay?" The room falls silent, and the ventriloquist says, "I'm sorry, Mister President, we were just..." Trump interrupts him saying, "I'm not talking to you, okay? I'm talking to that little bastard on your knee!"

I've actually studied ventriloquism and will be doing some more this year. I don't think it's dead. It just goes through phases of being popular like magic.

My wife and I go on cruises every once in a while, and they always have the usual earnest, good-hearted onboard entertainment: song and dance groups, piano soloists, cover bands, stand-up comics, etc. It's almost always passable entertainment, with some eye-rolling acts, like a really cheesy lounge singer act. But everyone is always good-natured about it.

Once, though, the emcee introduced a ventriloquist act, and you could see the flop-sweat apology written on his face. The ventriloquist turned out to be so lame, so bad, that I for one was embarrassed for him. It was excruciating, and it was a relief when it was over.

I don't know how this ever got to be a thing. Ventiloquism is just a really lame form of entertainment.
