The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support Forumsyesterdys bird visitors were
a red headed woodpecker, a pileated woodpecker(they're huge), a brown thrush, a flock of sparrows(song sparrows or savanah sparrows, not sure), a flock of morning doves, several ringnecked doves, 6 male blue jays.
I do not know how to upload pics to DU so I'll just have to tell you all what we've been attracting.
It seemed to be bath time at the pond as both woodpeckers, the blue jays, the thrush, and the sparrows lined up to cool off in the bird bath..
We also have several tree rats (squirrels) that try to eat everything put out for the birds.
We currently have the house listed for sale and I am beginning to believe they are showing up in order to show us what we'll miss if we leave.

(32,048 posts)I love to watch the birds at our feeders, too, and wow you actually got a Pileated woodpecker! I have only seen one once at my house. They are magnificent. After having feeders out for years, I saw for the first time a rose-breasted grosbeak last fall.
We had to move our feeders away from the back door, however, since the feeders were dropping seeds and attracting mice, which brought ticks to our dog. I still have them, but I can't see and enjoy the birds right at my window any more.
Good luck with the house sale ... maybe a prospective buyer will be enticed to buy your house if he/she sees your lovely bird visitors.

(16,179 posts)we went thru the mice/rat feeding two years ago and moved the feeders away from the house.
Yesterday it was like they all wanted to bathe at the same time. 1:30 p.m. west central florida time.
Hadn't seen either woodpecker this year till yday. The Redheaded is a annual visitor. The Pileated is a first WOW!
we also have two pair of nesting cardinals that haven't shown up yet. My plan, until we sell, is to get a song bird
compact disc and play it for them.
congrats on the Grosbeak, that's a beautiful bird.
