Christmas Day probably by myself.

I live alone, no family nearby, and I'm just fine with that.

I will be spending New Year's with family in Kansas.

I just keep reminding myself that we're doing this for my mother- and father-in-law. Hubby's dad has Alzheimer's. It's progressed enough that it's hard for him to carry on a conversation, can't be left alone or trusted to eat unless he's told. Don't know how many more years we'll be doing this large family gathering, but until that time, here we are.... All of us converging on FL.

Baking cookies for my BIL tonight, who never puts anything down on his xmas wish list. Drop fruitcake cookies loaded with bourbon. The raw dough tastes great. The first batch is in and I'm trying to steel my will to not open the oven door for 20 min.

The members of my remaining family are no longer able to be in the same place, it seems.
I feel incapable of creating or sustaining holiday tradition in face of sullen / hostile youth.
Occurs to me that if my own mom was still alive I’d at least know where to go. A lot might have been different.
December this year is taking a few years off my life. Everything is ruined.

Starts at 6 pm ends at 2 am.

They really drag the thing out.
They do it on purpose.

We all live in the same town...

This will also be reprated on New Year's Eve, but lasts until 4 am

Kinda dreading it. Over the last few years, there' been nothing I could eat at Christmas dinner (vegetarian-- all the sides had meat in them).

This time around I'm packing a PB&J sandwich.

I am looking forward to seeing my sister's kids (4,6)
