Josh GATES (Expedition Unknown) is always looking for archaeological treasures, never finds any

He's got a whole slew of franchises - Legendary Locations, whatever on the Travel Channel - and seems to be a decent fellow. I've seen many of his shows because a lot of them are on interesting topics and because he's a main alternative to the many stretches of nothing-else-on. In fact, totally many more than the other franchises, by far including BOURDAIN whom I admired but probably only saw a half dozen complete shows.

Josh cried live taping when his wife called to break the news either she was pregnant or was having the baby (I forget which).

His stuff has gotten me through quite a few of those barren news weeks when there's a national event swallowing up the airwaves (are the waves still air?!1 ) for an entire week.

But my quibble is: His hook is to delve into all the stuff that has fascinated everybody - the ark of the covenant, the holy grail, the treasure the Ostrogoths looted from the Romans, the this and the that - and he strings us along for entire hours, and: NEVER FINDS ANYTHING. Yes, all the context he provides along the way is fine, and the dude is daunting in his deep sea diving and other physical feats - but he NEVER FINDS ANYTHING.

He's not the only one - the Unsolved Mystery thing and many others are the same, which I do NOT watch. I want *SOLVED* mysteries!1

they never find a damn thing.

For a LONG time it is entertaining because we are HOPING something comes but it never does and ultimately we figure out it is all bullshit.

But sure, nice guy and all that.

I think maybe that is why he is concentrating more on treasure hunts as there stands a chance something may get found, a gold coin and then they have a whole follow up episode or special.

I know he pissed a few locals off with his Thylacine episode and certainly gave out dud info on the show like wrong locations and stuff especially since they gave their time, info and videos freely.
Either it's terrible fact checking from the production staff or more likely it's more theatre than facts but I still watch in hope.

It's got to be good tv for the networks, practically could go on forever without finding much.
And I'd still watch, lol.

The *blame* is WITHIN OURSELVES!1

(If you look at his LEFT eye, there's a little wink/twinkle there, like, "I'm Josh and I'm joshing you!1" The other eye is a little deadly.

I don't really care about what he finds or doesn't fine. To me, it is about the journey. What an amazing life he has led - so many interesting places he has visited. And he is always so respectful of all the cultures he has come across. His travels fascinate me and I have to admit, I am envious.

Although I do cringe when he tries to touch antique books and papers. Oak Island is another one that interests me , partly due to a family connection. Finding big foot was another one I liked.

That being said, "Reality" shows are rarely rooted in reality, and producers will do anything to keep their shows getting high ratings.
