(796 posts)beard is growing. been shaving since 13, really fucking tired of it at 50! i hate having full beard so i go 2 weeks then shave.

(15,806 posts)when a couple of the "regulars" routinely showed up unbathed and unshaved; one of them even joked that he shook too badly to risk using a razor. Couple of times they smelled so bad that the other customers threatened to take them out back and introduce them to a garden hose. Sorry, guys, but seeing the scruffiness brings back those smells. Also reminds of junior high when some of the boys were trying to show off the scraggly beginning effects of puberty.
Just one old lady's opinion. And, for the record, I've always been partial to beards and 'staches.

(9,671 posts)is getting close to Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) long. It ain't coming off til the GutBrain-in-Chief is out of there. I honestly thought he wouldn't last more than 6 months. I was wrong. Awhile back, I gave it a slight Manafort trim and another Manafort/Kushner/Don Jr. trim might be coming up but I'm in it for the long haul.
I believe there is another DU'er doing the same.

(20,211 posts)Once a friend's boyfriend sported the perma stubble look. When I left a party at her place, he walked me to my car. While I was thinking he was being a gentleman, he decided to drunkenly steal a kiss. Besides being put off by him assuming he could kiss me, I wondered how she put up with that stubble. It was like kissing a hedgehog! But I couldn't say anything ...

(10,205 posts)When I wasn't so gray, I had that shadow, stubbiness, if I didn't shave a second time around 5 pm. My wife didn't mind so I just shaved once.
But with my gray, I don't get such an obvious look anymore. The gray stubble, that comes after a day or 2 of not shaving, looks really awful. It looks dirty and makes most old men look grayer and older. I don't know why those old men in Hollywood think it's a good look.
moose65
(3,168 posts)And one reason only - I absolutely HATE to shave. Ugh. Drives me up the fucking wall, so Id rather have the stubble. As a geezer-in-training of 53, I have reached the point in my life when I dont give a shit what other people think of my face! Of course, it helps that as a gay man I dont have to worry about what the ladies like 😁

(20,211 posts)I can totally understand not liking to shave. I hate shaving my legs, but I do like how they feel smooth, so I do it.

(3,168 posts)When it gets too long, it gets itchy and theres a lot of gray in it.

(20,211 posts)Gray does seem to show up in a guy's beard first, or most. It can make you look older than you want.
Aristus
(66,446 posts)But I do it anyway.
Stubble is great for looking the part of a scruffy, exhausted, overworked medical provider. But it's best left to the emergency medicine staff. It just looks lazy on a primary care provider like me who at least gets to go home at five o'clock.

Normally I would have shaved every other day but in my advanced age (40) and young kids who don't sleep...I'm over it. Sorry

Equally ugly to me is the "shadow root" fad I see on some tv actresses now. The bottom part of their hair is blonde and the upper part, starting with the roots, is dark.

(7,399 posts)couple weeks. So I ended up buying one of those beard/moustache trimmers where you can adjust the settings. Eh...it was okay. But mostly I just shave. Now and then I let it grow for a few days, but not often. Lots of men and women shave various areas these days. A friend told me so.
