(13,192 posts)Because I had quit so often before that I had to make an "It's Groundhog Day" joke
I still smoke in my dreams tho, I wake up feeling guilty
Hang in there.

(18,656 posts)I quit nearly 5 years ago after smoking for oh...40 years. I feel so much better. I went to the lung doc recently and my lung capacity has increased since I last saw him 2 years ago! GOOD FOR YOU!

(32,714 posts)Stuck at 190, 6'3", that last 5 is the hardest. I did give up that last one donut every few days. The pizza was easy. About all I drink, other than coffee is iced fruit herbal tea I make from tea bags with no added sugar or artificial sweetener. When out of the house, it's unsweetened regular ice tea.
The best advice I can give, and it has helped me a lot, eat to live, don't live to eat.

(29,699 posts)you can do this.....great start. Think of all the money youll save.....remember to do almost the opposite of what you did do when smoking. My one example that was so hard for me was when driving. I started putting both hands on the wheel, deliberately not putting hands where they used to be when I was smoking. Remember YOU CAN DO THIS, QUITTING IS JUST THE BEST THING TO DO. Sorry for shouting.......congratulations, and were all so proud of you. Should say I quit May 2nd 2005.

(82,849 posts)Stay with it. This is the major league of addiction. Use every trick you can think of to stay away from that "It's just one" temptation. You've passed the 30 day mark, which is the worst time. You're well on your way! If you feel weak, PM me, PM a friend, PM someone. You will be an ex-smoker soon. For what it's worth, some anonymous guy on the internet is VERY proud of you!

(25,485 posts)Heading across the pond to old Blighty for a few weeks...after I get with my mates, I'm lost cause...I'm only ever smoke a certain British brand of cigs, and only smoke when I am there....I need to just give up..
struggle4progress
(118,330 posts)I've hardly ever smoked around other people in recent years. And about twenty-five years ago, I decided smoking in my house was a fire hazard, so I began smoking only outside. That made it easier
I really did used to enjoy some British brands, aside (y'know) from the cost, and the stains on my fingers and teeth, and the fact they made me smell bad, and the little burn holes in my shirts, and coughing up ugly crap, and a few other minor things, like lung damage and the chance for getting lung or bladder cancer

I quit 11 years ago - just got sick of it one day and threw away the cigs. Never looked back from there. Every now and then, when they show a PSA on TV, I realize how long it's been since I even thought about a cigarette.
You can do this!!! Keep up the good work.

(16,178 posts)20 plus years a quitter for me. Just starting to feel the effects of smoking for 42 years prior to quitting. They suck big time.
You can do it.

(86,765 posts)most difficult part! I wasn't a heavy smoker but it wasn't the easiest thing to quit when I did, 36 years ago. There are so many other things to spend all that cash on and you'll find you think more clearly as well as all the other benefits.
