On the evening news just now (I'm still in the States), I just saw images of the beach where my wife and I were in the water every day for almost a month. They showed the beach and an ambulance with some paramedics who came to save a guy with punctures wounds on his legs and torso from a shark attack. It was Long Nook Beach in Truro, MA, where we were in the water for over an hour just last Friday.
There were a lot of seals this year, and they were swimming closer to the shore (and thus to us) than in previous years--whether they knew that human bathers posed them no danger, or because they hoped the sharks would stay out in deeper water, or for whatever reason, I coudn't say.
The "that could have been me" feeling was stronger than I would have liked.

(41,758 posts)that had bit part in Jaws.
Her name was Fritzy Cohen - and her NY accent grated our Real Mainer ears every week in the summer.
I was rooting for the Shark
Series tho - almost everyone in the Maine theater that I saw Jaws in gasped when she appeared on the screen.

I thought you might enjoy this story about Macron and Trump.
Word in France has it that Macron thinks the same of Trump as did Tillerson ("moron" , but plays him like a violin.

(130,908 posts)Friends posted about this, along with a pic, recently, near where I live. 'PAX' is Patuxent River, beside which is my house.
'Any swimmer reported missing? This HUGE bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas) was caught near the mouth of the PAX, roughly 5 miles from where we paddled last week to Solomon's Island.
Bull sharks are the only species of shark that can live in both freshwater and saltwater. (Thank you, 'Shark Week'!) And it's been known to hunt deep below the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Annapolis, which is ~50 miles further up north. These sharks have even been found up the Potomac by D.C.!
But, the PAX may be able to boast that it has the largest of these beasts.'

(54,384 posts)Apparently there were a lot of seals, as many as ten, in the water near the shore, always a good reason to stay clear, and the guy was far away from the main area, as well as too far out for it to be safe. When there are a lot of seals in the water, especially around dusk, the one place you don't want to be is anywhere near them.
