Just like The Wanderers which came out around the same time.

I have to admit that when I first saw it, all the different gangs looked badass, whereas now I think they look a bit...... silly.

She recurred many times on both shows, as I recall. Both shows were good about not expecting us to believe that Los Angeles County has one or two sitting judges and one DA who tries everything.

Filmed in the hellscape of 1970's New York City.

Hollywood prettyboys as gang members.

A Clockwork Orange baseball team.

A stereotypical 'scary black man in sunglasses.'

And a 'Greek chorus' consisting of a sinister radio DJ.

It shouldn't have worked. It ought to have been laughed off the screen.

And yet, appealing actors and a deft, surreal directorial touch made it a nail-biting, must-see (again and again) flick.

I'll never forget the first time I saw it. I was knocked out of my seat.
