Freaking out a little now.

Closing in less than 3 hours and mortgage company just called and gave us our cost to close.

The initial CD said something like close to two thousand.

Now they are saying the number is like $100. Asked to repeat three times. Called realtor, he verified.

I'm totally like

2. Is it the payment for future billed tax liability

The seller owes taxes until sale, but the billing lags. That money gets put into closing.

at a closing. Maybe this is just one of them. But I'd smile and nod and say nothing. Worst comes to worst, you're back to the 2000 you were expecting.

Good luck! It's a big day. Congrats!

Now I don't even have to do that. If closing is less than 1000 dollars, you can write a personal check.

7. At my first closing (around '98) they couldn't tell me ahead of the meeting how much money to bring.

I had no idea until I got there and sat down. My last closing around 2014 wasn't much better. It's a crazy way to run a business.

8. Yeah. It does seem a little sloppy at time with the kind of money being tossed around.

I guess it works, but you'd think that stuff was down to a science.

I have bought four houses and sold three houses, and everyone of my final closing estimated statement has been pretty accurate. Same with my two refis. The one thing I know is that I have only one more closing in my life (the sale of my current house when I become an apartment dweller).
