Living my entire life in Texas, I wasn't exposed to them until I got XM a few years ago. I feel so cheated, but at the same time it's really cool to have a "brand new band" to listen to.

but left in the early 80s

I think I had heard of UFO back then but never really listened to them myself until about 5 or 6 years ago so I do know how you feel. I had always liked the Scorpions and I had peripheral knowledge that their guitarist, Rudolph Schenker, was the brother of Michael Schenker but for some reason I never explored Michael's catalog. been rectifying that for a while and glad I am...

This is why I come into these threads - I nearly always see something I hadn't heard of or maybe not considered before so I get to find new (to me) stuff.

And if I turn someone on to something that has made me happy, all the better.

I have received many speeding tickets to prove it.

Had to quit listening to it in the car.

Can't go wrong with that.

This might sound weird after the Black Sabbath suggestion, but I really dig ELO. Led Zepplin, Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Dio's solo stuff, Van Halen with David Lee Roth, and old Metallica are a few of my other faves from the 70s and 80s.

Good music is good music and if it turns you on it's good. There are no rules to what might interest a person in a song or band or genre even.

Not saying there aren;t bands that suck - because there clearly are - lol - but that's isn't the point here. Hell, I even shamelessly like some of them.

Something I find very amusing though is that he claims he didn't know that "journey to the center of the mind" was about drugs. Hmm... Trying to make his older work not reflect poorly on his newer or image, or simply proof that he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer?

A lot of the lyrics were pretty sophomoric, but the guy could play. Maybe if he hadn't been such a douchebag he could have evolved into an elder statesman of Rock rather than it's old crank.

The Staples Singers. The greatest band ever, the Rolling Stones, although they are technically still active. Foghat, Savoy Brown, Ten Years After, Humble Pie (one of the more underrated bands ever imo), James Gang. Need I go on?
