"This too shall pass."

And before anyone jumps on me, this doesn't mean you shouldn't do anything about the state of affairs today. It's just a guideline to help you get through life.

The civilized glasses of wine at night. But it's getting to be more of a habit than an occasional thing. It kind of happened very subltely. A glass here, a glass there, a bottle there a bottle there. I found that it helped to keep my anger and frustration in check, but now I not sure how to manage my moods without it.

I am spending a long weekend watching my sister's dog so that should help. Nothing calms me down and makes me feel better than being around a dog.

Honestly if it weren't for my husband, sons, and dog ... I could really see myself being one of those women who are just slightly buzzed all day long ... My father was an alcoholic, I must get the love of feeling buzzed from him.

Anyway I hope all of us will be drinking in celebration very, very soon! Once that evil orange turd is flushed away.....Enjoy that quality canine time this weekend!

because of it.

I had cut back recently to limit myself to one glass of wine a day and that went out the window yesterday when I found out the reason my knee replacement leg is still causing me pain and making me limp is that I need a hip replacement on that side! Had the other side hip replacement 11 years ago, knee replacement last summer. Now another hip replacement probably late September, looking at my calendar. I'm in the middle of a divorce and our house is for sale ( on the market for 2 months) and still needs work clearing stuff out. I am beyond overwhelmed in my personal life and when I look at the state of the country...well, a cocktail does help take the edge off of the despair I feel.

Picked up meds Ortho prescribed yesterday and read the warning label: limit alcohol use while taking this drug. Daily use of alcohol while taking this drug may increase the risk of stomach bleeding.

So there you have it. Drugs for hip pain or alcohol but not both.

It's really hard when you have nothing to take the edge off. Having a few drinks isn't the best way to deal with stress, but it beats feeling like you are going to explode with rage.

No meds today. Stayed with the cocktail today because I had a meeting with the divorce attorney.

But I think tomorrow I will start the meds because it will be one more motivation for me NOT to drink. And I really do need to cut back and lose some weight before the surgery. I always lose weight when I quit drinking alcohol.

I used to drink too much. Clearly too much. But now I almost never consume alcohol even tho I think it would probably be healthy to drink say six ounces of wine per day. I have no idea why about ten years ago I lost my ability or desire to drink alcohol.

Sometimes I don't need to drink at all, but lately I have just wanted to check out. I used to be a heavier drinker, but I just got to the point where I can't drink like that anymore. Now I just drink enough to catch a sleepy buzz and that's it.

At one time I got strongly buzzed around 5 nights a week. About twelve years ago I went to community college at night and had little opportunity to drink. I just got out of the habit, rather than deciding to cut way back. I find myself wishing for one sometimes with the current situation, but there is nothing in the house.

Just the other day my doctor wanted to know how many drinks I had per week. This year I had an answer. 0.2 per week and that's only because my brother gave me a fifth of good Irish whiskey which lasted a year.

I have a lot more self control now.

In the words of Tom Waits, I was, "half drunk half the time and all drunk the rest."

But these days, I rarely go a day without a couple of drinks.

I went back to Weight Watchers and got back down to goal but it took nearly a year to get there. It is a daily struggle not to binge on something unhealthy.

Thank God for grilled chicken salads, zero point pantry soup, other zero point foods, and raw veggies.

I rarely drink (just don't like it) but I eat when stressed or feeling hopeless. Carbs and chocolate, here we come. And the worst thing is you can't tell an alcoholic by looking at them but you sure can tell a stress eater, and we get endless shit about it.

Three reasons: 1) Psychotropic meds; 2) trying really hard to abstain from as much Trump news as possible; and 3) the fact that I like the feeling of alcohol WAY too much and I'd become an alcoholic way too easily.

I feel for those of you who have neither option (#2 being reporters, lawyers, activists, etc)
