Several years ago we lost a beautiful soul on DU.

I wish I could remember her name. What I do remember is that she shared an incredible photo that she took of fireflies. I saw them in way I had never seen pictured before. Now I question if they were even fireflies. Not long afterwards, she committed suicide.

I was wondering if anyone in the Lounge remembers the DU poster and the photograph?

I hate losing a DUer. Especially to suicide.

You never really know the pain in a person's life and that's just sad. Maybe you can't help but you still want to be there if they need you.

7. I had no idea about any of these tragic passings.

So sad. I do remember them. I always just assume people just move on or get tired of the place. I so wish we could have known the level of their despair so that maybe we could have changed things. I know it's too late, but I am just haunted by deaths like this. Always wondering "what if"?

8. Annette Apollo (that's her real name) and I carried on an off DU daily email conversation for years.

She disappeared due to a broken hip, then reappeared months later. The problems associated with that injury and the exhaustion of her savings led her to do herself in. She abruptly cut off all contact with me a few months prior to her death. She did that to others as well. She was getting ready. I still miss her terribly.

9. Oh, how sad. If she had only had adequate health insurance that wouldn't have led her to

exhaust her savings. It is just criminal what this country/government is doing to people. Nobody should have to be forced with such a choice due to illness/injury. It's just such a tragic shame. I'm so sorry for you.
