(34,111 posts)I am a bit of a purist but I love his rendition. I listen to it often. In fact I think I like the way he does it better than anyone.
I am one of the few that does not wish that WOO would go away, I embrace it. Beautiful video, I have never seen this one. Thank you. Made me cry.

(13,787 posts)For most songs, I like the first version I hear more than subsequent versions. For "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", in particular, I never would have imagined I'd like a cover anywhere near as much as the original, until I heard this one.

(3,435 posts)(Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole.) Thank you for sharing. I had just listened to song, hadn't viewed video, so I listened again...beautiful song, people; georgeous vistas.. just thoroughly enjoyed moment of tranquility. And damn it.. made me cry too!
This has been emotionally difficult time in America, wih ongoing advocacy, protests and a nation- wide protest today for children suffering at border, separated from parents, and so many disbursed across the country. I dearly hope they are safe and that those charged with their welfare, care for each child as if he/she was their own child, wth compassion respect and dignity. The belief that there are more good people in the world--than bad...that gives me hope that every child will be okay and reunited with a family member.

(63,221 posts)Usually I am not a fan of covers of famous songs, but he really makes this one his own and does it so beautifully. It is pure genius. So sad that he passed at such a young age. He was a rare talent.

Have you heard Iz's version of Take me home country roads?
