If you don't think you have the best hand and stakes are high you may fold. Sometimes it's because you were mistaken and had a bad read of what the other people might have.

You decide that your opponent must have you beat, so you decide to throw away your very strong holding.

This is a hero fold.

In most cases, the person who is making the hero fold will show his hand to the entire table.

Full of lingo and hipster-style discussion, but informative on the nuances of playing poker at a high level...

You feel like a hero if the other guy turns out to really have a better hand and you feel like a zero if you actually folded the losing hand.

If you want to be a really good poker player, you have to learn when to fold seemingly hands.

Some people can never fold pocket aces, and some people can never fold a set.

But I've folded a full house when the board had something like kk883. I had an 8 and before I can act one player goes all in and another player calls for a little less.

It should be pretty obvious that at least one of the other players is very likely to have a king, particularly the player who called for less. As it happened, both did.

But that's why you fold any hand.

What makes it a "hero" fold is when it's the sort of hand most people wouldn't fold.

2-4, 4-8 tables. Love high 7 stud, but for some reason the game is not well received at the casinos I go to here in South Bay area (Los Angeles county). Anywho, Texas Hold'em is real popular.

Two cards dealt to each player (usually 8 at a table). Dealer opens 5, not at the same time, bets, rising, etc. You use the best 5.

Hero fold is not done that often. When they say poker face, it's real. People who play poker are very serious concerning the game. Not very friendly either.
