Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI have just completed my first week at my new job and I hate it.
I'm not sure what to do. It is nothing like I expected. I don't want to stay very long at this job so I'm sending out resumes. I wish I had listened to my instincts when they offered me this job.

(15,682 posts)having a job while you look. Everyone knows it's easier to get a job if you already have one. And you can be as picky as you want.

(8,071 posts)This just happened to one of my very best friends too. He's going to stick it out until he can get another one. All I can say is to keep networking and getting those resumes out there. Keep us posted....

I feel bad for you as I've been there too. It sure sucks!
I hope you find something better soon!

Not until you've accepted can you really get a feel for it.

(4,373 posts)-Make the company a hand...go out of your way to
do as they say and then some...
-Don't do your job hunting there at work, at home is the best place...
-Don't mention to new prospective employers
you current situation..unless they ask. Then be
tactful..No hateful answers...maybe "Their nice
buy it isn't the job for me..."
-When you do get another job, be gracious
when giving notice...
I was a contract engineer for 10 years...and a direct
employee for 10 years prior to that...believe me
this approach will pay dividends down the road...
Good luck!

(3,275 posts)I will stay at this job until I find something else. It could be worse. I'm getting a paycheck. However, I'm applying for other jobs everyday after work. In the meantime, I will do a good job at this company.

(3,275 posts)I'm starting a temp job on Monday. It is only a temp job but it pays well. Hopefully, I will find a permanent position soon. In the meantime, I will have a job that pays the bills.

(27,845 posts)I mean, you don't have to name the company or anything, just say what the job was, unless you have a reason not to.

(6,398 posts)One company contacted me about a position. Wasn't really into it since it would be a lateral move, when I may very well be moving up where I'm currently at. Will only consider a lateral move if its a complete different industry and in a location "I could have some fun in". But, granted this wasn't a different industry, the thought of visiting Disney World, etc. quick access to the Caribbean, etc. intrigued me. So I looked up the employee reviews.
Now you usually get a good sized mix of "Great" to "Awful"....but plenty in the middle to get a good gauge to see which side of the curve it leans. This company was odd, the vast majority were either "Great" or "Awful", very little in the middle. That threw up a red flag, so if I go for it, I could love it or hate it....not much in between. But the company website sealed the deal for me, a young company founded in the 90's and one of the largest home insurers in Florida. In other words, one good hurricane away from insolvency.
Replied I wasn't interested.
