We're visiting DFW and his lovely wife here in Germany.
I was busy taking photos and then it was time to eat, so I placed the camera on a precarious perch.
A loud crash made me look and gasp. I picked up my camera and saw that the window on the back of the camera had a large crack across it.
The camera still worked but it needed to be fixed! The next morning we went to a local camera store, and they recommended that we take it to Nikon's local HQ. So we did.
A nice young lady took the camera upstairs and told us that they would have a look at it and see what was what.
Well. A bit later, she returned with the camera..............it had been fixed! New firmware, the dust removed from the CCD and a new piece of glass on the back!
Well, not quite new. She showed me these very tiny scratches on one edge. I would never have seen them if she hadn't pointed them out. They don't affect how the camera works or anything. Someone had found those scratches unacceptable.
The best part? NO CHARGE.
I was completely overjoyed! We shook hands, expressed our joy and then I wanted to take her photo and I sent her a copy.
Good Times! Major thanks to Nikon!

(3,515 posts)Good products. Good service. Not always, but often enough.
I'm not paid to say nice things about Germany. I just like that country after living there for a couple of years.

(149,738 posts)We really didn't know exactly what to expect, although we'd been told that they were nice people and so we might get lucky.
And we did.

(54,448 posts)I explained that Peggy was only here for a couple of days. They said all they would do is send it in to the Nikon place in northern Düsseldorf. They didn't handle business from individual customers, only local dealers, but they might make an exception for a tourist passing through on a recommendation from a local store.
It was only a 15 minute drive, and we didn't have a fixed schedule for the Neanderthal museum, so I drove out there with Peggy, Lionel Mandrake and the injured camera. Sure enough, the people there were just as nice as the people in my local store had said they were. Their customer service rep came down, took Peggy's camera with her, and returned maybe 20 minutes later with her camera as good as before, and with a few updates to boot. They weren't even equipped to make up a bill, as their business was only with stores that sent in their own customers' cameras for repair. So, they just said no charge, and spread the word that we care.
NIKON CARES!

(4,076 posts)We'll probably have to pay for the new signs that say "Nikon Headquarters ahead", "Nikon HQ next right", "Only 100 meters to Nikon", etc.
