OP
Mungo Jerry, hands down, is at or near the top. Also the "Porgy and Bess" classic.

That song has such a goofy history:
In the Summertime
Released 1970
Recorded 1970
Songwriter(s) Ray Dorset
Producer(s) Barry Murray
"In the Summertime" is the debut single by British rock band Mungo Jerry. Written and composed by its lead singer, Ray Dorset, it celebrates the carefree days of summer. In 1970, it reached number one in charts around the world, including seven weeks on the UK Singles Chart, two weeks on one of the Canadian charts, and number three on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the US. It became one of the best-selling singles of all-time, eventually selling more than 10 million copies.

I had thought for the longest time that it was from the '60s, but, no, 1970 was the year it was released.

DC favorites, The Slickee Boys. I wish I could go to the 9:30 Club to see them one more time:
Dreadful audio, either one:
Blue Cheer
Blue Cheer was an American rock band that initially performed and recorded in the late 1960s and early 1970s and was sporadically active until 2009. Based in San Francisco, Blue Cheer played in a psychedelic blues rock style, and are also credited as being some of the earliest pioneers of heavy metal, with their cover of "Summertime Blues" sometimes cited as the first in the genre. They have also been noted as influential in the development of genres as disparate as punk rock, stoner rock, doom metal, experimental rock, and grunge.
