The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm sending a copy of my art essays collection to Meryl Streep!
I first published these essays here on DU. There are 45 in all.
I talked to my daughter who lives in the LA area and asked her to find out if Streep's agency is there. I will send it to the agency and ask them to give it to her. Nothing would give me more pleasure than knowing she at least had it. I admire her enormously (who doesn't besides Drumpf). That doesn't guarantee that Streep will get it, but perhaps she will.
The book is being privately published. It will be costly to me because of all of the color photos but how much could it be, really? I have the money and it is something I want to do for my family and friends. And there are some DUers who have requested copies (I am giving them away).
If anyone remembers them and would like a copy, please pm me with your name/address and when it is finished I will send it.
Just finished seeing "Sophie's Choice" on youtube and her artistry just never fails to impress me! It's a hard movie to watch due to that scene where her little girl is taken by a cruel Nazi officer off to Auschwitz. Streep won an Oscar for that film.

(63,912 posts)It's going to be done over the summer by my older daughter. I was encouraged by several of our friends to pursue this and I consider this to be my contribution (late in life) to give the gift of art and its appreciation.

(63,912 posts)I don't know when it will ready but I expect it would be done over July and August. My daughter stays on Chappaquiddick Island in the summer. It's nice and secluded there and she just does a lot gardening but she's self published stuff before and is doing it out of her love for me. Bless her!

(82,849 posts)But I found your essays enlightening and interesting, even on those occasions when I had no idea what you were talking about. Sometimes I even learned something, which is pretty good at my age.

(63,912 posts)not less, accessible to people here. I have this theory that people are bewildered by lots of art terms and just give up on trying to understand an artist or his/her works.

(26,109 posts)You never know where word of mouth and the DU Marketplace will take you.
Also, you might consider talking with DFW about the publishing aspect?
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)but if you read my earlier responses I recounted the story of my dtr in law who was a book editor in NYC at Random House. She liked my essays but told me that there was a glut of such books on the market in NYC at the time. So I took that to heart and decided to private publish.
You give me some encouragement, tho. Thank you. Lars, I might just engage DFW about publishing. We used to exchange posts often when I was traveling in Europe visiting the art in Florence, London, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. That was a great time!
