Two women shot and killed nearby.
Shooter is currently at large.
Happened just under 3 hours ago.
I swear there's something in the water.
Names of the victims have not yet been released, so I don't know if I know them or not.

(102,357 posts)I lived in Central Denver when there was a serial rapist turned murderer... The last several attacks occurred within a three mile radius of where I lived and within only a few days. I learned what was going on when I walked across my nearby park with my dog as I did each evening only to run into literally 100s of SWAT team members, one who walked me home. They caught the guy that night... Very freaky knowing this though....
Stay safe

(27,172 posts)"Old" is extremely relative.
It's the part of Scottsdale that is the oldest part of the city.

(29,223 posts)I wouldn't have thought twice about walking around at night there.
scottsdale had the reputation of being "ritzy" and expensive.

(27,172 posts)However, Scottsdale, like all cities, has different neighborhoods.
I live in what used to be a very cheap area, just east of downtown.
It's now gentrifying, so I could never afford to buy here now.
(I bought my 900 sq. ft. house in 2004)
In the last three years I've had three neighbors murdered, one suicide by cop, one neighbor who committed murder elsewhere, and the couple next door committed suicide together.

(16,350 posts)Some residents consider anything south of Camelback a ghetto, that's why the "motor mile" is now mostly gone. Skysong is helping, but I don't see it spreading beyond the site.
The cops in Scottsdale suck, they will arrest anyone for anything they can think of.

(27,172 posts)When Allison was murdered, it took them a MONTH to tell us to look for someone in the neighborhood with scratches on their face and arms. (After such wounds would have healed). And this was after we had been questioned TWICE by the PD!
And, of course, it turns out it wasn't someone from the neighborhood at all.
And yes, I am quite familiar with the derision "South Scottsdale" gets from its northerly neighbors.
I remember reading a letter to the editor of the Scottsdale Times (I don't think it exists anymore) bewailing the fact that North Scottsdale doesn't have a major mall, and they have to come to the "war zone" of South Scottsdale to Scottsdale Fashion Square to shop.
(This was well before this recent spate of wacky violence that was kicked off by Allison's murder three years ago).
Myself, I haven't been to Scottsdale Fashion Square in YEARS. I loathe the place and don't find I need a mall to live my life.
Ever since they tore down Camelview Theatre (RIP) I haven't been at all.

(7,888 posts)your neighborhood is not unique. It's not the water. Stay safe, create a neighborhood watch that doesn't have a bias. Hold the local police accountable for fair, non-biased, upholding of the Rule of Law. Protest those that show racial, color or religious bias. That's a tall order in the era of an unlawful man in our WH.
I do repeat myself.

He raises a big stink when strangers get close to the house, but his dirty little secret is that he's really just a big goofball.

(131,102 posts)Deaths of 2 Paralegals Linked to Killing of High-Profile Forensic Psychiatrist.
'The fatal shootings of two paralegals on Friday in Scottsdale, Ariz., have been linked to the killing of Steven E. Pitt, a forensic psychiatrist known for his work on high-profile cases like the JonBenet Ramsey investigation, and who was shot miles away less than a day earlier.
Dr. Pitt, 59, was shot dead as he was leaving his office building on Thursday around 5:30 p.m., Sgt. Vincent Lewis, a spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department, said on Saturday. His department released a sketch of a suspect on Friday.
Witnesses told the police they had heard a loud verbal argument and they heard shots, Sergeant Lewis said. Dr. Pitt was found critically wounded on a walkway outside his office building on North 71st Street, Sergeant Lewis said, and pronounced dead at the scene by the Phoenix Fire Department.
Less than 24 hours later, Scottsdale patrol officers responded to a call at 2:15 p.m. Friday about a shooting around 10 miles from where Dr. Pitt was shot, the Scottsdale Police Department said.'>>>

(27,172 posts)There was a fifth murder related to the case.
This morning, the PD traced a suspect to his hotel room, he fired on the PD, they threw a tear gas grenade, entered the room and found he'd killed himself.
So, the crisis is over, but for 5 families it will never be over.
Thanks to those of you who expressed concern and sympathy for the victims.
