I live right down the road from a Shell station, and since there are four licensed drivers living in my house, including me, plus my husband has a truck, lawn tractor, boat, and roto tiller, we buy a lot of gas. (I know, should go electric with some of this lawn stuff)
So we notice gas prices. Monday gas was $2.58/gal. Tuesday it went up to $2.89/gal.
I wonder if this pullout from the Iran deal is affecting us already.

Historically, gasoline prices are higher in spring/summer than winter.
If one looks at a commodity spot price chart for Gasoline RBOB (Reformulated Blendstock for Oxygenate Blending) over the years for seasonal tendencies, theyll find that In the lead-up to summer (April/May/June), prices tend to rise in anticipation of peak driving season. Prices tend to fall in the winter when inclement weather keeps consumers off the roads.

(35,317 posts)if our gas prices are due to Trump inspired events or the state infrastructure gas tax
It also depends what side of town you're on

(11,885 posts)To over $70 a barrel now and still rising. Watch how much this causes all costs to rise, and it'll ripple through and raise costs for everything. Trump's policies are also helping Putin make billions more , as their economy is an oil based economy, and gives huge sums of money to putin also by trump doing some of these things he's doing. He's helping Russia's Putin, and hurting the American people. That should never be happening that way.

(426 posts)....for premium, which is what we use. Probably 10 cents cheaper per gallon for mid-grade. Make that $3.59 9/10ths, so they get that extra penny.

(34,137 posts)We drove downstate Sunday and checked the prices between Perry, Florida and Lakeland, Florida. Most prices were between 2.58 and 2.64. We paid 2.61 at a Raceway in Crystal River.
Today on the way back every Raceway was at 2.79. A couple of stations in a little town across the street from each other were both 2.67 but nearly every one else was higher. My husband forgot to fill up further south and ended up paying 2.93 so we wouldn't run out on the long stretch between Perry and Tallahassee.
It didn't cost us too much extra - the Prius only holds about ten gallons so we paid about a buck extra.

(7,021 posts)Here in Northern Illinois it always goes up at least .25¢ per gal. at a time.

(205,903 posts)It normally happens when they switch to the less polluting "summer blend," but I noticed another jump today. Prices are now over $2.80 everywhere and a few are over $2.90, expecting $3 soon if this keeps up.
If you want to see what gas prices are anywhere in the U.S. and Canada, I belong to GasBuddy where members post local prices:

(17,216 posts)... yesterday, eg, $2.50 at the Walmart and $2.70 a mile or so up the road. That area has three gas stations in one cluster, and they are always 20 cents more a gallon than Walmart and this area. Go figger.
They change on a daily basis, sometimes by as much as 10 or 20 cents a gallon. Milk prices do the same. It takes some getting used to. This is In the Middle of Nowhere, Kentucky.

(17,476 posts)I don't buy gas often, but will this weekend.
4/22/18 at a Speedway, I paid $2.499, today, Gas Buddy says that station is at $2.639.
In three and a half weeks it's up 14 cents, just under 6%. We've often seen a 2 to 3% increase for summer and also a blip "coincidentally" right around UVA's graduation.

(205,903 posts)I discovered it in 2010 when gas prices were going up - now I post prices on my way home! It was also very helpful when Texas and Florida were hit with hurricanes last year. I posted the links in the state forums because area GasBuddy members were posting which stations had gas...

(17,476 posts)Gas Buddy, making a special page for hurricane Irma. I was able to help a lot of people get back home in Florida either directly or by sending them to the page. Much of my help was done on Facebook.
We've used Gas Buddy to decide which side of the mountains to fill up the trucks. When you are buying hundreds of gallons it can make a big difference.

(205,903 posts)I posted in the Florida forum for people who were looking for stations that had gas. It was very cool that they provided such a vital public service!
