(23,723 posts)If you look in the top left hand corner. you can see the half circle of wood is up against something else which I believe is probably a large wooden board all the pieces of lumber are attached to. So while it's a great optical illusion, it's also really a great piece of woodworking.

My grandfather told a tale of a guy who sold firewood and knew how to stack it.
He wanted $20 a cord and the buyer only wanted to pay $16 a cord.
So the guy agreed
On the truck, it stacked as 4 cords.
On the ground it stacked as 5 cords.
He was known for loose stacking.
A friend said that his dog chased a squirrel into one of his loose woodpiles
Someone asked: what did the dog do then?
Followed the squirrel was the reply.

(22,845 posts)a good job of loading wood for transport. Later, when it's stacked, plenty of room between logs for air circulation is essential so it doesn't rot.
