His DNA was collected at the scene, but there were no matches in any database.

What then happened is the DNA was submitted to the AZ State Prison system, to see if there were familial matches.
There was a close match (brother) that resulted in Ian Mitcham's arrest. The brother is in prison for a molestation charge.

This was the first use of familial DNA matching in AZ.

Ian Mitcham lived in Tempe at the time of the murder, but had been arrested for a DUI in Scottsdale about one month before Allison's murder. That mug shot is the one being used at the press conference taking place right now.

They have no idea what the connection would have been between Ian and Allison. She had a boyfriend, who was cleared because of the DNA evidence. Unless Ian explains how he came to murder Allison, the police have no idea how they ended up in Allison's house that fateful night.

I guess that's the important info for now.

Thanks for your interest and support.

As Barretta would say, "Don't do the crime if they've got your brothers slime!"...

In AZ, that can get you the death penalty.

(I'm against the DP, FWIW).

The suspect is 42 years old and he hadn't committed a crime serious enough for his own DNA to be in the national database. The police don't believe he had any connection to the victim. I wonder if there are more victims of this man.

I hope his arrest with provide some solace to the young woman's family.
