(20,211 posts)But when I read the backstory on it I was kind of creeped out.
"A guy walks into a store and instantly falls in love with the girl behind the counter whats so disturbing about that?
Well, for one thing, the real-life girl at the center of the Knacks smash hit My Sharona was only 17, a fact referenced in rather Prince-ly detail in the lyrics: Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind / I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind. Didnt realize those were the words you and your friends were dancing along to, huh?
Now, to be fair, Knack singer Doug Fieger was only 25 at the time, and the couple thats her, Sharona Alperin, on the singles cover ended up dating for several years."

(115,829 posts)but kids that young shouldn't be singing opera; it's too demanding for an undeveloped voice. You can hear her breathe in places where she shouldn't be breathing, because she doesn't have the strength or capacity to sustain the line. It's like a Little Leaguer trying to throw fastballs - they ruin their arms by the time they're 18. I hope this kid gets lessons from a good professional voice coach so she doesn't ruin her voice. Actually, a professional voice coach probably wouldn't let her sing opera at all yet.
I just looked her up; she's moved into "classical crossover," which is what some singers do when they can't quite hack the demands of opera. It's also more lucrative. Andrea Bocelli, who often sings flat, and Sarah Brightman, another singer who started very young, are examples of this.

(54,436 posts)That isn't too often, obviously. I think some 13 year old girl did something similar on the US version of the show.
And, indeed, usually they follow the advice, as Amira did. I forget if I posted a clip with English subtitles or not (I speak Dutch, so I wouldn't have noticed), but when asked, she said she just imitated what she had heard on youtube. Just that one in ten million talent that can do that at age 9. She also said that she had never had a voice coach. However, you can bet that professionals were knocking at her door the day after the performance to warn her not to ruin her future by singing things that could destroy her voice early. She said that she chose to sing an opera piece for the talent show merely because she liked it when she heard it on youtube. She had no way of knowing anything at all about the mechanics of the game.

(27,845 posts)I know it was written by Lennon & McCartney, and it was on the great "Sgt. Pepper" album, but in my opinion, Joe Cocker's version is the best....period!!

Blinded by the Light was hot when I went to first junior high dance, and my music tastes were still being formed. It has always stuck with me.

(27,845 posts)But Joe Cocker's version is pretty good too, and, imo, the best song he ever sang.
(I'd forgotten how much I liked the original Beatles version)

(27,845 posts)George wrote it after The Beatles returned from India.
His 3 band-mates were "apathetic" about the song, so George countered by inviting his friend and occasional collaborator, Eric Clapton, to contribute to the recording.
(Clapton overdubbed a lead guitar part)

Well, actually, just Калинка, but if Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl can be called "My Brown Eyed Girl," then Калинка can be called Калинка Моя!
Some pretty spectacular folk dancing, too!
It's the second tune of the 2 part medley. The first is Берёзка (Во поле берёжинка стояла , also a well-known tune, but nowhere as well-known in the west as Kalinka.
