I don't think I'd be afraid of one in that situation. From what I've read they're just super fast scaredy cats.

Afraid I'd be dumb enough to try to pet it.

My cat loves to jump into an open car window and take a nap on the headrest. It really is amazing how alike big and small cats are in appearance and how they move in that slinky but sudden way.

I guess they could claw them up real bad if provoke. I've seen so many episodes of Big Cat Diaries, that they seem to like the human vehicles. They can be prey to leopards and lions, so maybe the vehicles are a bit of shelter.

At one time they were tamed and taught to hunt and capture game. But I can see how it might be a little startling if one were to hop into your car and start gnawing on a headrest.
