Tonight's Vinyl Selection

Arc of a Diver

Steve Winwood

1980

Winwood goes more to pop on this album, but you can still hear influences of his old Traffic days on songs such as "Spanish Dancer".

Includes "When You See A Chance", "Arc of a Diver" and the aforementioned "Spanish Dancer".

The first 29 seconds of the intro of "While You See a Chance" features Steve Winwood on various musical instruments, but not on drums. As I understand it, Steve accidentally erased his drum track, and he did not have time to recreate it to his satisfaction. I think that, in this case, less is more. The first 29 seconds are perfect as released.

I bought this and Steely Dan's "Gaucho" at the same time. I remember the record store clerk commenting on the artwork on the album covers. I think that these may have been the last two new LPs I ever bought. 38 years ago and I still have them!
