If you own a pickup truck, you are familiar with the notice at the car wash that the bed of your truck should be clean or it won't be allowed in.
I never knew why. Until today.
I drove my mud-coated truck to the car wash this morning - decent weather for the next 36 hours - but the guy said I needed to clean the frozen hay out of the back. I carry hay sometimes, and, indeed, there was some hay frozen to the bed.
So I borrowed a shovel and a broom and got as much as I could out of there. There was still some, but not much, but I was allowed through.
The hay was no longer in the bed, but much of it was pasted on to the outside body of the truck. It came off with a quick swipe, but, still, now I know where the dirt in the bed goes when you take your truck through the car wash.
Also, the truck itself wasn't entirely clean - it was just that filthy.
Now you know.

I need to take my Suburban to the car wash. Last time I had to make them re-wash it. They'd washed all the pollen off the sides and hood, but the roof was still yellow with the pollen. I'm debating whether I should get it washed and waxed soon, or if I should just wait until the trees stop blooming and spreading pollen everywhere. One theory is that if you get it waxed the pollen doesn't stick so bad.

(1,967 posts)I recently bought a pickup. I wouldn't have known to clean the bed before going through the car wash.
