Heads up, DUers along the Mason-Dixon Line. BOLO for two flocks of geese,

headed north at a high rate of speed, displaying no lights, and obeying signals known only to themselves.

As soon as Jeopardy went off (8:00 p.m.), I grabbed my binoculars and went outside to look at the moon. I head this racket coming up from the south, and a noisy flock of geese went over. Although they were close, and they were between me and the moon, I could not see them. No sooner than they had passed, but another flock, even louder, as they were almost directly overhead, flew over, a mere ten seconds behind the first one. Those guys were yakking up a storm, but I couldn't see them either.

I'm in Alexandria, Virginia. The official high temperature in DC today, at National Airport, must have been about 75 degrees F. I've got a weather radio, but noise from the computer wipes it out.

I had taken the day off -- tomorrow too -- and I went down to the library at about 2:00 p.m. wearing a t-shirt. I wasn't fooled, as it is still February -- I took a jacket with me. I needed it on the way home an hour after sunset. I've got clothes drying out on the line right now.

Related thread: It's only February 20th, and I just saw my first Robin!!

Edited, Wednesday morning at 6:55 a.m.:

Per reply #7, a record high of 78 degrees F was recorded at National Airport yesterday afternoon. The old record high was 76 degrees, set in 1930. Yes, there was no National Airport in 1930, but they use data from a nearby location from back then.

Montgomery: 83 degrees, breaking record of 80 set in 2017. Record high set last year.

But it snowed twice this winter! How is this possible?

I have in the past seen them going in various directions around the 'ville. None of it was the proverbial south in the Fall and north in the Spring. I think mine were looking for a pond. No geese here lately.

morning, evening and night. Never have seen the nighttime geese, but sure do hear them!

Last 'warm' tomorrow for a few, then rain thru Sunday! Good for the flowers, I guess.

Wow: look at all the record highs set today!

An exceptionally warm day across the Eastern US today, with numerous record high temperatures for February 20th broken or tied. A number of locations set or tied new record highs for any day in February.

They are getting to be quite the pests here in this part of the midwest.

The temperature hit 82 degrees F at National Airport (DCA) at 3:43 p.m on Wednesday. IAD is the code for Dulles, which is in Chantilly, Virginia, some 30 miles west of downtown DC.

If yesterday's list of record highs across the Eastern US was impressive, today's listing is just incredible. 24 of these locations broke or tied their record high for the entire month of February.

I had Tuesday and Wednesday. I was working outside all yesterday afternoon, going inside only to check on clothes I was washing. I hung them on an outside line to day. There were gusts of 15 or so MPH, so it was a great drying day.
