The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIn honor of my appearing in the "Where Are They Now" thread, I proclaim today Amerigo Vespucci Day.
I can now check one more item off of my bucket list...I was in a "Where Are They Now" thread!
Yes, I was Amerigo Vespucci, and posted thousands of posts.
One day in 2013, I restarted my computer and what came back was my wallpaper...that was IT.
I had apparently had contracted a MEGA-VIRUS which wiped out EVERYTHING. It might have also been coupled with hard drive failure...the computer was old and acting erratically.
I bought a new laptop, but didn't remember the email address I used to sign up for DU, so I couldn't really contact Skinner and ask for a password reset. Maybe I could have, but with no real identifying info, it would have just been me claiming to be who I really was, so I started over again as Miles Archer.
But it is VERY COOL to be named in a "Where Are They Now" thread.
Where am I now? It's almost a Zen question. On one hand I know I am sitting here typing this, and that I was once Amerigo Vespucci, but yeah, seriously...WHERE AM I NOW?
Some of you who remember me also remember my having the "It's A Beautiful Day" artwork in my sig line:

(18,837 posts)Coincidentally, by the time the A.V. account died, I was also no longer in California. I stopped my regular photo shares around that time.
I still do restaurant Websites, but the actual food itself, no matter how well plated, wasn't a match for California. I've posted a few now and then, and the response (which I understand and respect) has been largely "The photo is technically good. The food and presentation isn't that impressive."
I don't miss the cost of living in California, as well as the ridiculous overcrowding. I do miss the food. I'm a pretty decent cook myself, so there's really nothing I got in a restaurant there that I can't make myself here. But there was something about just being able to go in and order it that can't be replaced.
