Though set in Missouri, it was actually filmed in North Carolina, generally in the area near Asheville. The billboards were on the edge of Black Mountain, the town of Sylva was used for a lot of the locations.

Lots of movies have filmed primarily in that region of NC. Some examples: The Fugitive, Being There, Dirty Dancing, My Fellow Americans, The Hunger Games, Last of the Mohicans, Nell.

that took place in Texas, and I think the last of the 3 billboards is still standing with the murder still unsolved.

No way you can predict what's going to happen, and the ending leaves possibilities wiiiiiiiide open.

Everyone took it all the way to the edge, and then some. I was impressed with Harrelson: I didn't think he was that deep.

I'd love to hear from someone who really lives in a way-off small town in the state: Is it really that bleak?

So, who thinks they find and kill the guy? Do they ever get caught and locked up?

Sad but enough funny parts to keep it from being too depressing. The acting was superb.

Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, etc. Even the brief flashback appearance from the daughter was haunting.

the nominees are all so different from each other. I don't know how people can pick. I will say as much as I enjoyed Lady Bird, it doesn't strike me as Oscar worthy for the movie as a whole. Individual actors and writing/directing yes.
