Happy New Year from Belgium to all my DU Friends

I'm late but I have reasons, I'll explain in another thread.

In Belgium, we can send wishes until 31 january. I don't know if it is the same in the USA.

I wish all a very happy year, a good health, plenty of joy and many many great wins for the coming elections.

Thank you.

It is a small country but we a rich and dense history with many contributions from other cultures.

Yes, it is a nice country to live in

However, not all are intelligent. We do have our fair bunch of RWers...as stupid and under educated than yours...

Question: Do you have any celebrations like Groundhog Day or Candlemas (half way through winter) in Belgium?

Yes we do have Candlemas (la Chandeleur) tomorrow

The day of crêpes (pancakes). It is not the same as your pancakes. Traditionally, the first one is flipped with the right hand as high as possible while holding a gold coin (if possible) in the left hand. Then, the crêpe is left on a cabinet for the whole year. It is supposed to bring fertility and prosperity.

I never did it But I make crêpes that day.

It is not a holiday nor an official celebration, just a tradition inherited from an old feast of the Christian Church.

Groundhog Day: Brought over here from Germany. If the hog sees his shadow tomorrow, we'll have an early spring. If not, six more weeks of real winter. Not all that reliable
