That's what its called when you fire up the electric blanket so that the bed is toasty when you hit the sheets.
I looooove it.

We would go upstairs and turn on the blanket. When we returned fifteen minutes later there would be three or four cats on the bed.

(24,007 posts)...that feels great on my neck and shoulders. Various of our cats will sleep on that even when it is not turned on - hope springs eternal.

(14,275 posts)I like to snuggle in under a comforter while I have a ceiling fan on high sending down cold air. I sleep best when it's cold.

(16,334 posts)I would die anywhere near an electric blanket. I like the room to be cold but i especially like to feel air movement on me when I sleep.

(10,098 posts)I always had an electric blanket before, but when my last one crapped out, I went with a heated mattress pad. I'l never go back.

(9,989 posts)Do they last? I've had 2 (fakey Chinese) Sunbeam, that lasted a year or so. (Thanks, Al Dunlap)
I don't know what brand it is, the cheapest (or only) one the store had, mine has lasted 3 years.
Peace

(57,489 posts)On a related note, I have some "The Ronning" boot dryers doing their thing, warming the cowboy boots I wore to work today. I bought them at a church rummage sale for next to nothing.
I need to remember to plug them in when I wake up, so I have warm boots to put on in the morning. Mmmmmmm.
They're from Norway; Oslo, to be precise. This is one Norwegian export we do need more of.

(18,650 posts)I do it nightly but I fire it up about 1/2 hour before bedtime. It's like slipping into a hot tub, minus the freezing when you get out!

(3,515 posts)Still -- preheating with an electric blanket is wonderful.
I also put dried beans in socks and tie the socks up and then stick the sock with the beans in it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. Extra warming and good for arthritis pain.

(17,122 posts)I just can't say enough good things about how it feels to lie down on a heated mattress pad and melt away the aches and pains. I open the window, put a fan on for air circulation, and usually keep my feet uncovered. I have foot claustrophobia, so having my feet bound up at the end of the bed is unbearable. Cool moving air, free feet, and a nice warm bed. My body can shut down because all the heat I need is provided. Ultra thin wires you don't even know are there. The Sleep Judge rates it 8.5 out of 10.
The pad has great fit and deep sides to hug the mattress, too.
From the Electric Blanket Institute: "Their electric mattress pads are the only ones in the USA conforming to the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) classification Non-hazardous Low Voltage.

(7,754 posts)I got one for our camp trailer. I'm 68 and my hubby is 71 so when we go camping in actual campgrounds I use them there too, in the winter. I never even thought about using a heated mattress pad. Either way, these old bones love the warmth all night long. I sleep so much better. My sister stayed with us and used our travel trailer for a couple of weeks and went right home and bought an electric blanket. They are the bomb. Nothing like the old ones. Thin little wires and soft and fleecy. A must for anyone with arthritis or bursitis.
Our cat and our dog love them too. I turn them on about 1/2 hour before bed and within a few minutes both of them are in the bedroom waiting for us.

(7,754 posts)good the sleeping bags. . I sure don't want to get up in the morning. They have those wind chargers now that are like a little old fashioned windmill that can power a pretty big battery. So you could conceivably use one of those to power a heated blanket and maybe even your coffee maker for the morning. What more could a person possibly need?
