I hadn't seen it in years. With the whole Mariel Hemingway relationship it just seemed more creepy than funny.

I, too, especially love his early films, including his 1st, "What's Up Tiger Lily"
as well as Take the Money & Run & the other early ones.
My favorite Woody Allen movies are Sleeper and Play It Again Sam.
Annie hall was just OK, imo.

Regarding his relationship with his adopted daughter, Soon Yi Previn, it began when she was 19, so she wasn't a "child" ..She was an adult and as such, could make her own choices.

As far as Mia Farrow's allegations that Woody sexually assaulted his 7-year-old daughter, the local police asked the Child Sexual Abuse Clinic of Yale-New Haven to investigate.
The team consisted of two social workers, a nurse and Dr. John M. Levanthal, a pediatrician.
"Citing inconsistencies in Dylan's account, Levanthal testified by deposition that, in the Yale-New Haven team's view, Dylan may have been coached by Farrow, or may have been emotionally disturbed when she made the allegation, or a combination of the two."

Your Honorable Mentions have better talent.

Just my opinion.

ETA: You've left off some of the greatest directors. Go back a few more years and you'll see what I mean.

I'd have put many of them on before nearly everyone on your actual poll ... apart from Scorsese, the Coen's and Spielberg, my list would've been people from your HM list ... maybe Tarantino makes it though ... arguably ...

And, offhand, my Gross Oversight Award ... goes to 'Lack of Wes Anderson'

in order to replace it with another choice, and Lucas has one vote.

However, in this case, I'll make an exception, and replace George Lucas with Polanski,
he's one of my favorite directors too

That said, you’ve left out Aronofsky and Nolan, both of whom fit the list’s style and are much better than the choices provided.

And seriously; James Cameron? Are you havin’ a laugh?!

Who would I hire to direct a film right now? Not Steven Speilberg - or Scorcese.

It's hard to say. David O. Russell seems to work with a lot of the same cast again and again. I really enjoyed The Fighter; American Hustle not-so-much. Tarantino, Wes Anderson, Alexander Payne, and the Coen Bros all do well in their niche. I'm not a huge Ang Lee fan, but I know many would argue he is the best. Lee Daniels has done interesting work. Iñárritu has done impressive work.

If I had a good script, and $75 M on the line, I'd probably go sign Ron Howard. He's reliably good; actors seem to like working with him; and he has a pretty solid body of work. If I am making a prestige film, and my goal is to win an Oscar (TM), then probably I get Alexander Payne inasmuch as I enjoy his films most out of the current crop of prestige directors.
