The Death of Modern Family

The TV show Modern Family has died.

It is currently into it's ninth season, and will
have ten seasons, but last night's episode
was the day it officially died for me.

The producers/writers have decided that their
sole purpose is to make sure Disney has their
next child star.

Nothing against the child actor, but he's just
a pawn in a money making machine, sure
its a faux doco, and the actors look at the camera,
but this child actor has yet to figure out the times
he is suppose to look at the camera and the times
he isnt.

But that's not my main beef with the show and how they handle
this actor.

It use to be edgy, they use to write brillantly for their kid
actors, now they have turned the show into some Disney Junior
Full House show.

Shot after shot, there is a close up of Joe Pritchett's face, he may
say lines like "I luv you mummy" or "Im sorry" and the shot
will linger on his big brown eyes.

It's killed the show for me, I feel like I'm watching a show for little
kids, then straight after his scenes they may have more adult content
with the adult actors.

Bit it seems more often than not the show, is about pushing this
kid and his cuteness on to the viewing public.

A far cry from season one when Phil Shot Luke with a paintball
gun.

I'm kinda guessing next week episode, there will be half a dozen
shots of Joe's face close up.

I wont know, because I wont be watching.

RIP Modern Family, 2009-2018.

Or the one where the oldest daughter fell in love with the old guy, however long ago that was.

(He was like a babysitter, or a nanny, or something. The guy from Workaholics.)

It is a great show, overall, but this year I havent really enjoyed a single episode.

They will always be known for the funniest moment in tv history, I think

thought there was music or something when his clown foot hits the ground

when he pulls out the clock

Loved it in the beginning, but I thought it lost some of its charm when the 3 Dunphy kids got older and some of the characters became cliches.

6. Too bad shows aren't willing to pull the plug

Big Bang Theory is another that should call it quits. A lot of Mindy Project fans were sad it only ran 6 seasons, but I think it's better, especially with a comedy, to quit while you're ahead.

11. The Big Bang Theory will go at least one more season after this one. The contract is already signed.

Some actors have already said they expect the show to end at that point, after 12 seasons.

To be honest, I could do 14. I still enjoy the show.

7. Yeah, the last few years have been terrible.

I gave up early last season. Pretty much done with Big Bang Theory as well.

Walking Dead jumped the shark for me a few seasons back, even before they killed [redacted] and lost my wife and daughter. Last episode I watched had some cannibal bullshit going on and our intrepid heroes trapped in a shipping container. Whatever.

9. All sitcoms have limited existences because the initial situation itself

can be milked for only so much comedy before the writers have to come up with new situations - usually by adding characters or getting them married or some such thing. But that changes the original situation that was funny in the first place. At some point, before the situation devolves into unfunny absurdity (as usually happens), they should just pull the plug. For most of them that seems to be no more than seven seasons.

10. Modern Family has made me laugh over the past few years

as much as any other show ever has. I haven't watched it in a couple of years. I also wish that shows would end before they jump the shark. I guess the writers simply run out of story lines...Sometimes when I need/want to laugh, I'll YouTube different clips form different shows and Modern Family is almost always in that mix. Some of the scenes are just hysterical...

It's a very funny show. But I think it had a shelf life.

And in today's world, the jokes about Gloria and Jay don't seem so funny.

12. Meanwhile their competition, Law & Order: SVU, got NBC to hire Brooke Shields to remind us all

how horrible and dangerous birth families potentially are and why it might make sense to avoid them.

I cannot imagine anything has happened on Modern Family that is as terrible as what was just written on SVU.

The initial seasons were good, and then declined in quality after the kids started going to college. Now it's just a zombie show that needs to die. I agree that Joe is a very annoying character - no offense to the child actor who plays him. I do enjoy the early ones as reruns, but the later episodes are terrible.

The Big Bang Theory is facing the same problem. Both shows should have ended seasons ago.
