There are a lot of very narcissistic people out there. More than a third of my patients are extremely entitled. The only reason they see me at all is because they are forced. They would pull this shit in a minute.

She bought it about a week before Xmas.
Manager said it was against store policy but didn't want to argue.

And the rule was "no returns/refunds on live Christmas trees...period."

We had a few people try to return them as "defective". "It's a cut-tree, Ma'am. You knew that when you bought it. You're not going to get it to grow in your yard."

7. Maybe.

Maybe life was great before Christmas.
Then tragedy struck. Maybe someone died. Maybe a spouse took all the money and left her - the trusting housewife - with the kids to feed and no way to pay the rent/mortgage.
Maybe she really is just selfish, with no sense of community or honor.
Maybe there’s something about us that causes us to assume the worst.

Perhaps some deep breathes are in order. Costco is all grown up, so Costco can exclude Christmas trees from its return policy if it wishes.

I worked at a Home Depot in hurricane country for six years. Whenever we had a hurricane warning we would sell shitloads of generators. The day after we got them all back...and half the time we’d get them back full of gasoline.

No, the problem is people have decided retailers are where you go to get free rentals. Buy it, use it, bring it back.

I tested L.L. Bean's legendary return policy by exchanging 4-year-old shoes

Regular L.L. Bean shoppers know, but those who haven't heard the store's name since seeing it stitched on their elementary school backpack may not: The brand has one of the best return policies in America.

As part of its "100% satisfaction guarantee," L.L. Bean fully empowers its customers to decide if they are truly satisfied.

Any L.L. Bean-made item can be returned with no time limit or proof of purchase, as long as you make it clear that you are somehow dissatisfied with how the product has held up.

"We’re the only company I know of that completely empowers the customer to determine what satisfaction means to them," L.L. Bean spokesperson Mac McKeever told Business Insider in August.

L.L. Bean has recently signaled that it is considering revising the generous return policy, though no final decision has been made yet.

Have you ever returned L.L. Bean merchandise years after you bought it? Now’s the time to clear your conscience.

By John Hilliard GLOBE CORRESPONDENT FEBRUARY 10, 2017

L.L. Bean may be known best for its merchandise - outdoor jackets, pullovers, and two-tone winter boots.

But its loyal customers also know about the company’s very generous, century-old return policy: the retailer will accept returns on used, years-old merchandise.

“Our guarantee is a handshake – a promise that we’ll be fair to each other. So if something’s not working or fitting or standing up to its task or lasting as long as you think it should, we’ll take it back,” the company says on its website.

With a receipt in hand, customers can return used items “at any time” for a refund, merchandise credit, or exchange, the company said on its website.

No receipt? An item can be replaced or returned for a credit at the current selling price, the company said.
