(4,407 posts)They have to keep it behind the counter. It is an ingredient for making Chrystal Meth

(102,297 posts)Because ephedrine is abused to make meth, you have to provide id and sign it out. That is true of every state that I know now.
Don't kill the messenger--that's just the way it is.

(130,974 posts)It's available, but with ID, as pseuphedrine is used to make 'bad' stuff.

(29,675 posts)I swear tho, that is the only thing that works for my, dripping nose, and watery eyes, just the worst parts of the cold. But right, I do remember that now. How long has that been the case, keeping behind the counter??

(12,344 posts)It does work the best. I take it you are lucky enough not to get colds very often?

(16,334 posts)it's the only thing that really works for me. I only buy it about every 2 or 3 years and feel like a criminal when I do.

(9,894 posts)After the real decongestants went behind the counter I tried the new stuff. Once. I mean one dose. I tossed the rest of it and went to the counter for the stuff that actually works. My sinuses laughed at that junk on the shelves. Completely useless.

(12,344 posts)You can bring the card to the pharmacy counter and they take the precious medicine from the secret high security vault in the subbasement.

(9,730 posts)Then I discovered Flonase through my dentist, of all people. He said it was "life-changing." He was right. And it's nonprescription and you don't have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter. Give it a shot. It's $15 to $20 for a month's supply - one squirt into each nostril daily. It's also available as a generic medication, but I haven't tried that yet. Should work just as well.

(16,319 posts)What I noticed is that a lot of retailers jacked up the price when it went behind the counter. Right now in my area Fry's and CVS have the best prices. It used to be super cheap, I could get a 100 count bottle for like 5 bucks. Today you can't even get a 100 count package.
I use it mostly to keep my eustachion tube open per my ENT dr.

(7,947 posts)They'll make you sign for it. It can be used to create meth, supposedly.
But you just have to sign for it-- no big deal. It's just silly it's treated more cautiously than alcohol and tobacco.

(2,889 posts)for my roommate, not only did they ask for ID, they entered all my info from my license into the computer. I remember I think back in the 90's I would come home to Michigan from Colorado, we would cross the border into Canada (Sarnia) to gamble, you could buy aspirin with codeine but only if you went to the pharmacy, no prescription. I don't know if they still do that. I wonder if Imodium might be next, I read an article about people taking so much Imodium it produced some sort of LSD high ? Crazy.

(25,862 posts)You did have to sign for it, but it was obtainable. At some point it became totally unobtainable. Well, maybe by prescription, but I never researched that. Too bad, because sometimes I get a persistent cough.
murielm99
(30,745 posts)It was a prescription.
On another occasion, I went to the counter with the little card that sits on the shelf in the place of sudafed. I asked them why there was a card over there. I felt stupid when they told me. They did take all my information from my license, even though I get prescriptions filled there regularly.
