(20,249 posts)Mothers' Day weekend. She was 18. Our boy 'translated' Mothers' Day 1995. He was 20.
Last year we moved into a new one level 'townhome' (silly description) and 3 months later, adopted a doggie daughter! First one. They're different. She 's a huge fan of her daddy!
They are a responsibility but what joy!

rogerballard
(2,880 posts)That was the name I think the shelter gave her, I liked it so I kept it, she has a sister named Angel who is white that I brought in from outside on a cold, snowy night last December.

(4,492 posts)She looks like she could use "Da Bird."
(Da Bird does not refer to a finger-- it is a great interactive cat toy. It's a feather on a string on a stick. No I don't work for the company, I've just seen countless felines do backflips over this thing.)
rogerballard
(2,880 posts)It is around here somewhere, now it is the string and stick and both my cats love that. 15 years ago I bought feathers on a string tied to a stick for 2 cats who have since crossed over, of course the feathers and string are gone, I still have that stick and these cats love that 15 year old stick They do go sort of ballistic when I get that stick out !

(17,218 posts)your girl will have such soft, "slinky" fur when she grows up... just like my Sophie. Sophie my black kitty was 15 when she went to heaven.
we have 5 cats now. all were rescue cats.
This is our INKY.... she is 7, Pretty, Fluffy INKY. She is super SOFT. She loves to be petted. Inky is a real talker.
merry christmas to you and your new cat girl.
rogerballard
(2,880 posts)INKY is beautiful!!! Merry Christmas to you and yours You have your hands full, I wish I could have 5 cats, throw in 2 or 3 dogs too!
Sort of a hard time of year for me, this is Simon, went to Heaven December 12th of last year, I kept whispering in her ear, "make it to Christmas baby", I held Simon in the palm of my hand when she was a wee kitten before I could take her from her Mother. Simon was 16 when she went to Heaven.

(205,404 posts)My cat Felix is black, as well. Though it just turned out that way, three of the four cats in my life have been black - so they are my favorites. And your new kitty is simply stunning...
Congratulations to you both and wishing you a wonderful lifetime together...
rogerballard
(2,880 posts)That was my Fathers name, so now I will name my next black kitty... Felix, or perhaps a beautiful black lab ! Thank you !
Rhiannon12866
(205,404 posts)I do like the name, as well, and it's even more special since it was your father's name, too. I'm not good at choosing names since I've adopted older animals who usually already have names, but I found my beautiful Felix as a tiny kitten and I finally chose the name because he is "a wonderful, wonderful cat!"
I also have a dog and his name is Jack - which was also my father's name. And that's appropriate, too, since my Dad loved animals - and he passed that on to me...
rogerballard
(2,880 posts)I hate choosing names, the first two cats that owned me were named after one of my most favorite singer/ songwriters, Carly and Simon. What is next Lucy and Ethel ?
Rhiannon12866
(205,404 posts)Though one thing I've noticed is that once they've had that name for awhile, you can't imagine calling them anything else...
rogerballard
(2,880 posts)Simon...
Rhiannon12866
(205,404 posts)Not to mention hollering "Jack!" when Felix jumps up on the counter or something and Jack looks at me like "What did I do??"

(2,880 posts)to lose a pet. So sorry about precious Ziggy. I do love that name. These are my previous cats who have since crossed over. The blond one, Carly was my first cat ever, I adopted her in 1997 and 4 years later adopted Simon, the black cat. Both girls made it to 16. I have 1241 photos on my iphone, it is safe to say 900 (if not more) of those photos are of my cats !

(25,771 posts)This little guy is Rocky; sometimes known as Mr. Grumbles.
We were living in Denton Tx back in 2010 and I was pretty much homebound due to some recent surgery. My wife felt like I needed a companion. She say this little guy on the internet. He was at a shelter in Weatherford -- about 2 hrs away. We decided to go get him.
When we got there the shelter was closed. When we came back the next day nobody knew where he was as he was not in his kennel. We went out and looked around the doggy playground as some were out there, but we still couldn't find him.
As it turned out, he had been there long enough that they had decided to let someone there foster him for a while. He had been in the back getting neutered before going out for fostering. When we finally located him he was asleep recovering from surgery.
When he woke up he staggered around a lot and was not very communicative, but we wanted him anyway. So that afternoon we drove him back home to Denton. He was still a little out of it and didn't even make a sound for about 4 days. In that time he had become familiar with his surroundings, his chew toy and "bed" in a comfortable chair, and our room and king sized bed where he actually slept.
One day I was in the living room with him when the next door neighbor knocked on the front door. Rocky let out a loud bark. Scared me half to death.
