Otherwise I keep it at between 63 and 65. I spend most of my 'down' time in the den, where there is a fireplace with an insert. Once that gets cranking, it actually heats the den into the 70's, and the rest of the living spaces to about 65, so my furnace doesn't even have to run.

I like to keep the bedroom cooler so I don't open the heating vents, unless it gets polar-cold.

I just had a new furnace installed (replacing one installed in 1986) and my heating costs have plummeted, so far.

Thinking I would save money, I have tried to use a space heater in the past (while turning down the thermostat). I found that the cost increase in my DTE bill cancelled out the cost decrease in my Consumers Energy bill. Oy!

:crossingfingersfornopolarvortexthisyear: For the most part, I like Winter and enjoy the snow, but the frigid cold... nope!

I've been dealing with a family emergency that will entail quite a bit of driving, this week, and yesterday was nightmarish. If I can get past Friday, things should settle down so I can go back to selective driving days.

Hopefully all of this sunshine will help melt the ice on the subdivision streets, and let it evaporate before it has time to re-freeze!

I've never heard of having two energy providers! We just have Consumer's, in the Flint area.

it seems many (especially the large trucks/SUVs drivers) have a memory lapse as how to drive in Winter conditions!

The refreeze is the worst. I have noticed that the side streets where I am have had less and less attention over the years (some, basically, become skating rinks).

DTE is electric, Consumers Energy is gas here.

65-68 during the day.

Years ago, my husband had a really cheap friend who planned to save money on his heating bill by keeping it at 55 all the time and wearing extra sweaters. My husband thought that sounded like a good idea. "Not if you want to live with me," I said.

Western PA. We have forced air heat and I hate that dry air blowing all the time. We do have a humidifier on the furnace, but the air still seems dry. I use a space heater if I'm in one of the chillier rooms. I just wear sweatpants, a tee shirt and a shirt-jac in the house... I don't bundle up or anything.

I despise the heat being on. He is always cold. Before we turned the heat on this year, he said it was 57 in the house. Must have been why I wasn't hot at the time.

blankets and open the window to let fresh, cold air in at night. In the morning when I get up I turn it up to about 72 while I am getting ready and then turn it off when I leave. I grew up in upstate NY and we didn't heat the second floor of the house so I grew up used to sleeping in a cold room w/ lots of blankets and down comforters. I liked all the weight on me and the cool air. I felt like I slept so much better.

My current apartment building is extremely warm for some reason so I rarely need to turn it on unless it goes below 35. The common spaces are like a sauna and I have to put a blanket under my door to keep the neighbors from complaining about the cold breeze from keeping the window open. There are a lot of elderly people in here who just crank the heat and I think they just heat up the entire building. Also, I don't have to pay for heat or air conditioning. They are included in the price of the apartment, so that's a bonus. I make up for my lack of using heat in the winter in the summer when I crank the AC. I just hate the heat, especially at night. I can't sleep in a stuffy room.

Northern Va. Typical winter days, have thermostat 70 in evenings, 65 daytime and bedtime, esp on workdays. Have a townhouse so tricky. Rear faces south so blinds open in winter, closed in summer. But when we get those arctic blasts and I want to watch the 65” in the basement at night, I crank up to 72. Basement is inground but when it’s in 20s/teens, gotta take the chill off. Heat is natural gas and winter bill rarely above $100/month Jan/Feb, our coldest months. But electric only $25 or so. Flips in Summer. I think a combined utility bill peak summer and peak winter of around $130 is a bargain. 7 months of the year is lower. I can afford the occasional bump on the thermostat, whether it’s 20 or 95. Very fortunate.

Washington is pretty temperate usually rain and 40s in winter but we're coming up on a week of teens and 20s at night and I don't want to wake up to a cat-cicle. I keep it on low all the time.

The thing is, it does get much cooler upstairs where I sleep and in the basement where the boys sleep when they are here. Guess I'm a wimp. I do get cold quite easily and my doggo only has a thin short-haired coat.
