Does anyone know of something made of latex or

some other waterproof material that I can modify and duct tape to my leg to cover a surgical bandage so I can take a shower without getting the bandage wet?

Requirements:

1) Has to be bigger than the bandage which is about 6 x 8 inches, so a cut up latex glove will not work.

2) Doesn't have to be latex...could be rubber or something else that is waterproof.

3) Has to be something that I can go buy over this weekend.

Thank you.

as they're sorta heavy duty, sealing the top and bottom of some Saran Wrap around your leg... that worked for me before

I think I will cut a piece of heavy duty contractor's garbage bag that is slightly bigger than the existing bandage, and then seal it with something like Nexcare waterproof tape. I think if I keep the shower from hitting it directly, this will work. Thanks again.

a kitchen product called Press'n Seal, and mine came in a roll about 12" wide. It has a sticky side that will very gently stick to your skin and bandage to hold it in place while you tape it, and a non-sticky side that is perfect for the duct tape to stick to. Cheap enough that you can toss it when you're done.

Also a very handy product to have around the house.

so it won't rip of any hair or your bandage. Should just help stay in place. I use it to seal up economy-size spice containers for storage, and for storing left-overs in the frig.

Best of luck on your recovery!

I should be ok in a week or so. I have to see my doc on Monday to get the dressing changed. She will kill me if I get the thing wet, but I'm going to be doing some heavy work this weekend, and I'll be very rank by Monday. I'll give the stuff you suggested a try. If it seems like it is too risky, I'll just end up taking a sponge bath.

and taped it over the bandage with surgical tape. Try to keep the leg out of the water spray as much as possible, but it will work.

Saran Wrap wrapped around your leg several times, starting considerably above the bandage you are trying to protect. It then only needs to be “tight” at the very top where you also seal it with surgical tape.

If you are really paranoid, you can first make a pad of paper towels and secure with tape at the top, then wrap the Saran over that starting several inches above the pad. The pad will catch any moisture that might get under the wrap. Make sure all the paper towels are well protected by the Saran; otherwise, it will act as a wick.

I dealt with a leg wound for almost two years. if on the foot or lower leg there are two products that work ok - plastic bags and tape SUCK. (if you can get tegaderm it works OK for smaller wounds)

Drypro boots works good enough to swim with, but it is a pain in the ass to put on. http://www.drycorp.com/ (saved my sanity, though because I could swim in the summer!) probably have to order on line and they sometimes have quality control issues but for long term I would get a couple!

There are other "cast protectors" that you may be able to find at local pharmacies (I would call around) the one I liked the best for showering was a plastic boot made of vinyl or pvc about the weight of a good shower curtain and at the top was an 8 to 10 inch rigid plastic ring that held a sheet of latex rubber with a 2 or 3 inch diameter hole that you stuck your foot through. Pull the ring up over the cast or bandaging and it makes a pretty decent seal at knee height or above, depending on what you get. a little awkward but worked pretty good for showering. Husband had one for a hand wound as well. I am sorry I can't remember the brand name but we got them at our local pharmacy.

I see other products on line as well. Ah found an image - https://www.allegromedical.com/personal-care-c532/dmi-waterproof-long-leg-cast-protector-pediatric-clear-p585963.html

.

Clear packing tape will last through a shower, if applied from low to high in several spiraling wraps. This way, water will cascade down it like shingles on a roof. Just remember to minimize water contact, and still treat the area as susceptible to leakage, just in case there is a pinhole in the bag. I often would double bag. Tape one bag and then apply another over top of it.

Don't use duct tape as that hurts like a mofo when getting off and often leaves a sticky residue on your skin.
