I took my first ice-related tumble, today so I feel the need to whine.

I slipped on a patch of ice and came down HARD on my right hand and knee and lost a patch of skin on said knee. Could have been worse, I guess, but it's funny how, now, hours later, the bruising and body aches are just starting to set in.

But since nothing broke, perhaps this serves as more proof that I'm a pretty tough and sturdy old dame. And, I managed all of this knee damage without tearing a hole in my favorite pair of black jeans. Those jeans also disguised the fact that I was bleeding, so I carried on with what I was doing for probably far longer than I should have, but perhaps that is more testimony to my sturdiness. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

Ok, I'm done. Time for more Tea Tree Oil and Chardonnay. One for antiseptic, the other for anti-pain.

I love the scent of Tea Tree Oil, so I'd better apply that to my damaged knee BEFORE I drink the Chardonnay! I have the feeling that confusion might finally undo my near indestructibility.

4. The aches and pains last a lot longer than when we were young, too.

Do you have any winter traction aids to put over your shoes?

Feel better soon.

5. This was a 'rogue' ice patch - probably the ONLY one in the parking lot!

Had I been wearing my old faux ugg boots, I probably would have stayed upright, but I was wearing clogs.

I will be looking into some traction aids, though. I know that my luck with dodging calamity will someday run out.

And thanks!

6. I scraped my ankle area slipping on an ice patch - huge blisters appeared next day

then the infection became obvious -- cellulitis. Quite an ordeal (that was in December 2015). Watch for an expanding very warm red area...

7. I did a good swabbing with Tea Tree Oil and slapped on a band aid

Tea Tree Oil got me though a head wound I received when I dropped a garden roto tiller on my head. Yea, I'm pretty accident prone!

I will definitely keep a close eye on it, though. I did a similar injury, a few years back, tripping and scrapping my knee on the driveway. That time I ruined my favorite pair of trousers.

8. OK, I'll bite -- how did you drop a rototiler on your head?

I'm not sure if you're aware, but it's a long-standing tradition that one operates one's rototiller at foot level or even slightly below.

12. I was lifting it by the handle while I knelt to adjust something, and it slipped

It came full force, conking down on my head. At first I thought it wasn't much, but then the blood started streaming. I washed the area with hot soapy water, did a little pressure applying and thought I had it stopped so I headed up to the store to get a fresh bottle of Tea Tree oil. As I was standing at the cashier's stand, I felt a warm sensation running down my head. Fortunately I got out of the store before it became TOO obvious, or started dripping onto the floor.

It wasn't a big gash, just a bloody one. I spent a few hours flat on my back, applying pressure with an ice bag. Then it was back to gardening.

I've had two or three rather bloody incidents while putting in my veg garden. We now consider this to be my yearly sacrifice to Mother Nature. Given my accident prone nature, it's a good thing I'm a quick healer.

That wasn't nearly as frightening as my carbon monoxide exposure.

13. Looks like just the top layer of skin was removed

Which eliminates the worry about a gooey healing process. I guess my favorite jeans mitigated the damage. The bruise is forming up, "nicely" and my knee, although a little sore, on top, is fully functional. I'm surprised I didn't scrape up my hand, too, but other than being a little sore - oh, wait. This was my excuse to take it easy, today! So "Ouch!! OWWW!!! Sniffle!"
