I have no words for this one ... except another of my WTF's.

Assuming the 500-mph, mile-long flight through the Mojave Desert does not kill him, Mike Hughes told the Associated Press, his journey into the atmosflat will mark the first phase of his ambitious flat-Earth space program.
Hughess ultimate goal is a subsequent launch that puts him miles above the Earth, where the 61-year-old limousine driver hopes to photograph proof of the disc we all live on.
Itll shut the door on this ball earth, Hughes said in a fundraising interview with a flat-Earth group for Saturdays flight, which ranged across theories that NASA is controlled by round-Earth Freemasons, and Elon Musk makes fake rockets from blimps.

(4,149 posts)That will take him up to 35,000 feet in relative comfort (moreso if he buys a business class seat). That's more than 17 times higher than his puny rocket will go. He could also fly in a helium balloon that would get him to over 100,000 feet.

I know his head is flat!
I is truly mind boggling the power of the human mind to delude itself in the face of facts.
I will venture to say that this delusion will take care of itself, part of Darwinism and thinning out the herd.

(43,890 posts)Lawrence "Larry" Richard Walters (April 19, 1949 October 6, 1993), nicknamed "Lawnchair Larry" or the "Lawn Chair Pilot", was an American truck driver who took flight on July 2, 1982, in a homemade airship. Dubbed Inspiration I, the "flying machine" consisted of an ordinary patio chair with 45 helium-filled weather balloons attached to it. Walters rose to an altitude of over 15,000 feet (4,600 m) and floated from his point of origin in San Pedro, California, into controlled airspace near Los Angeles International Airport. His flight was widely reported.

(25,183 posts)a fizzle of the rocket motor, which would make him look no sillier than he is today, and he will have become one of the leading spokespersons for the concept of flat-earth. This will cause other nutcases to toss money at him if he can only set up a website...

Anyone else think that einstein here may be a little short on the scientific method? Not a good thing for building a home-made rocket.

(1,227 posts)Lets fund this idiot through escape velocity and maximum dynamic pressure as he transitions to trans-sonic flight.
Hell, lets give him a couple of engineers to orchestrate a roll program even.
And then we'll wait for re-entry from LEO.
I'd fund that just to watch it through my Schmidt.

(13,899 posts)He has articles about his latest jump in newspapers worldwide, not to mention the massive online buzz. This all has to do wonders for the pay-per-view sales.
Getting these flat-earthers to sponsor his latest jump was a stroke of genius on his part. How many people had even heard of his previous jumps?
I suspect Mike believes in a flat earth less than NASCAR drivers believe in Marlboro or STP or any other sponsor.
