I knew it, all that butter and those chocolate chip waffles.
BEFORE this gets too serious, take this with a grain of salt or an extra pat of butter.

(54,770 posts)I'll add a slab of country ham. All that salt will bloat you up, but it is so good in the moment.
Nowadays, Waffle House is not a regular thing for me. The ones in the South really lost a lot of business when they banned smoking, which was a good health decision but not a good financial one, I'm sure. The one closest to me used to be waiting line packed when folks could smoke inside. Now, I can get in anytime and the air is so much better.

(1,216 posts)I eat waffles loaded with real BUTTER & syrup every morning with real bacon. And I drink only WHOLE milk. And I love cheese cake from Publix. Always have one in my fridge. I am late 70's, never had any heart problems.
Disclaimer: I rarely eat red meat. And I walk 2 miles every day.

(13,485 posts)People in FL and TX don't eat at Waffle House but others travel from surrounding states. Also the resaurants in CO, AZ and NM are only for Midwesterners who travel west for vacation who have to get their fix before heading toward liberal states.
See, I'm scientific!

(971 posts)When I had the night roving tech job in Phoenix, I'd stop by them after bar closing time for the people watching.
It was .....educational..... shall we say.
Huge biker type:
300+ pounds
One eye
Steel teeth
No shirt
Tattoos covering all exposed skin
Hair impregnated with road dirt/oil vapor
And then there was the guy she was with....
Being the sober one in an establishment of this type is always, shall we say, ...entertaining...
That job was some fun times; Closing Time was about the same as "lunch" time for me, and open 24 hrs places collected a wide variety of people(?) that could only be described as Characters.
Very few things will stop impending violence more effectively than the appearance of an obviously angry short order cook holding a large meat cleaver.
And we had the ring-side seats. I miss those days, sometimes.
I'm taking some long overdue vacation, I just might have to make a late-night excursion, just to see if things are still the same. Just for old times' sake.

(34,137 posts)I has two eggs sunny side up, three slices of bacon, and two slices of wheat toast. It was delicious!
My husband and I eat breakfast out maybe once a month. Since it is at least fifteen miles to the closest place to get a decent breakfast it is not practical to do it very often. Generally it is after an early morning appointment so counts as brunch. Waffle House is our favorite place to get eggs - they do sunny side up better than anywhere else locally, the service is excellent, and they don't charge a fortune.
