Meriadoc would have been dressed as an esquire of Rohan, and Peregrin as a guard of the tower. No attire would have been fine enough for Frodo and Samwise, so their depection is fine.

detail like the hobbits' clothing sticks out. Otherwise, that scene quite took one's breath away.

Orlando Bloom appeared in a Midsomer Murder mystery just before he was in The Fellowship of the Ring. A little tidbit was possibly put in to acknowledge that he had been cast as Leglas - one of the estates in the story is called Lothlorien and DCI Tom Barnaby has to explain to Sergeant Gavin Troy where that came from.
The episode is name Judgement Day, season 3, episode 3 and is referred to in this video about the series - WARNING: spoiler!
