Mike Hummell was a receiving clerk and BCTGM union member at a Hostess bakery in Lenexa, KS. He became outraged at the further concessions the company was attempting to force on the unions, the pension benefits that evaporated upon liquidation, and the bonuses and riches that would soon be reaped from the sale of the famous Twinkies, Wonder Bread and Ding Dong brands.

Hummel decided to take matters into his own hands, and wrote a worker’s eye view of the story for Daily Kos. Hummel’s piece, “Inside the Hostess Bakery” went viral, offering a clear view of the $110 million the workers lost in concessions and the final stand made by the bakers’ union. Now, Hummell has prepared a short documentary that tells the story of Hostess’ demise through the voices of the workers themselves.

We really need to take this country back.

I had a conversation with a fellow a few weeks ago. He's retired military and an avid Fox News watcher. He made a comment to me saying that the time for unions is over. I was furious. I lectured him for easily 20 minutes on the fact that if there was ever a time in this country when the labor union was relevant, it was right now. I explained to him that he WOULD NOT have the retirement benefits he has if not for past union struggle. I also expressed the reality of the re-distribution of wealth and how it's been going on for 30 years.... re-distributed upward and away from the poor and middle-class.

Dammit... I'm going to bed angry.
