(8,244 posts)Rifleman was a badass dude. I wouldn't want to cross him.

(21,925 posts)which was always touching. My favorite show as a kid was a Rifleman spin-off and one of the few positive portrayals of Native Americas on TV. The Law Of The Plainsman starred Michael Ansara as federal marshall Sam Buckhart, a Harvard-educated Apache who returned to the frontier to serve justice. Sam Buckhart started out as a character on The Rifleman.

(8,821 posts)What was his kid's name? The one who always came running and yelling "Pa! Pa!"
He was like a warning siren that went off whenever somebody needed shooting.

(46 posts)He was a single parent, who didn't wear a gun. Seemed like an anti-gun type of show to me.

(28,498 posts)In this Western series, Jason McCord, the only survivor of the Battle of Bitter Creek, is court-martialed and kicked out of the Army because of his alleged cowardice. Rather than demean the good name of the Army commander who was actually to blame for the massacre, McCord travels the Old West trying to restore his good name and reputation.
For those of us going through "Rifleman withdrawal"
Yes I do

(8,821 posts)After the episode's dead were all gathered-up and buried, there might even be a quiet moment when some precious gem of paternal wisdom would be shared with the youthful co-star. Quite touching, in a blood-splattered sort of way.

(37,451 posts)1892 .44-40 Winchester carbine. The gun itself was specially modified with a large loop and metal tab so it could fire rapidly for the show, one of three.
I have a similar model made much later.
