TYT: Teacher Tweets: 'I'm Naked, Wet, & Stoned'

23-year old high school math teacher Carly McKinney tweeted pictures of herself barely clothed, smoking pot, and calling her students "jail bait," among other things. She also lied to the local news about it, which she also tweeted about. Does she get a "pardon" since it hasn't been proven she did anything illegal? Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Jayar Jackson, and Jesus Godoy break it down. (From the Jan. 30 edition of The Young Turks)

How can I blow that image up, I want to assess the importance of her tattoo. Well, I mean, it could be very important.

Well if she was smoking at school. I think she is a disaster waiting to happen. At the very least someone needs to keep an eye on her and make sure she isn't alone with any students.

If it was a case of someone else posting them or if she posted them but didn't allow conversation between herself and her students. And I don't care that she smokes pot whether legal or not. It's the whole thing where she is communicating with her students that bothers me.

It's definitely a sexist opinion, but frankly I'm cool with her conduct. If we're talking principals here though, and this is where people are getting upset I think and rightly so, a teacher shouldn't be engaging his/her students like this.

In my opinion she is guilty of terrible judgment and unprofessional conduct. More, and this is the bigger issue to me, if I were her boss after seeing this I could almost certainly expect more issues of this type, and potentially far worse.

I work with kids for a living. And while I have a far more optimistic view of the intelligence and maturity of kids than most adults, things like this are so far over the line that they are almost cringe inducing. If she were a male teacher, posting these kinds of images where students can (and apparently are) accessing them, he would be fired and potentially prosecuted, and no one would bat an eye.

So yeah, I am torn here. And no, I don't really think she is all that attractive, so that's not influencing my judgment.

I would like to see our society move beyond repressive religion based anti-sexual and anti-women bigotry, but I don't think teachers public twitter accounts should be the front lines of that battle.

... if a male teacher tweeted suggestive pictures of himself and described his female students as jailbait, he'd be in jail right now, or at least on camera with Chris Hansen.

And if this teacher had um "dated" one of her students instead of just posting pics, you can bet there would be people saying atta boy, and lucky guy and whatnot. It just wouldn't be taken as seriously as if it was a male teacher/female student. Of course if it was a male teacher/male student we might get some outrage.

How the hell would I ever get anything done?

It's kind of stupid to do this though. People love to play morality police.
