Clyburn on House Speaker chaos: 'Not the bipartisanship I'm looking for' - The Last Word - MSNBC

Assistant House Democratic Leader Rep. Jim Clyburn joins MSNBC's Lawrence O’Donnell to discuss a possible bipartisan speakership solution after Republican Rep. Jim Jordan loses the first House Speaker vote.

Speaking of Rep. Jordan, Rep. Clyburn tells Lawrence “Let’s get someone who believes that we should put the people of this country over the politics that we practice.” - Aired on 10/17/2023.

That sounds like a necessary list of qualifications which sure means that Jordan is out. Rhiannon12866 Oct 2023 #2

Democrats should get consideration commensurate with the votes that they provide. But in the negotiation for any deal that is struck, Democrats should demand as absolute prerequisites to any deal:

1) A speaker who is not an insurrectionist
2) Holding to the deal already worked out on the debt ceiling
3) A binding agreement that will forestall any government shutdown over budget wrangling.

These are not "gets" for the Democrats, these are the minimum requirements to end up with a functioning government.

I obviously have no idea how this will turn out, but without agreeing to support this minimum list the Republican chaos will continue. And Hakeem Jeffries did get the most votes. *sigh*
