Newer reports have come out showing more dead and the response. This is only to show the video report and the area, nothing graphic. Apparently ABC will follow this all day and into the evening. I have no comment that would serve any purpose, and if anyone wants me to delete this as upsetting, I will. Posting as an FYI only.

2. Gun Control

I think that no one in this country should be allowed to obtain a gun without
at least 3 (in person) valid character references who are willing to put their name
on the application. If this was enacted anyone wanting to purchase a gun must
bring in 3 people who would be putting themselves in jeopardy for the person
purchasing the fire arm.

It sure won't stop it all, but is will be another barrier to cross.

4. That's an interesting way to make people more responsible. It takes a number of people to say that a

person is sufficiently mentally incapacitated to be forbidden from owning a firearm.

I've seen cases in mental health proceedings. Those persons have already hit the system and been involuntarily committed in place of jail as they are not capable of behaving as public safety demands, much less handling a firearm. I mean they could hold it and fire it, but they have been adjudicated not responsible by virtue of severe mental inpairment diagnosed by professionals. Your idea expaned the number of responsible persons deemed competent and would be a form of enforcement on the personal level.

Your solution deals with those who are now able to legally purchase weapons and ammo, but the only drawback, other than sheer criminality and undiagnosed personality and sanity issues is this. The weapons here are the Glock and Sig Sauer, for sale online with no oversight. The man in Aurora, CO purchased his kevlar vest, ammo and weapons online, IIRC. It was not supervised by his friends, the law or the community.

It's very hard to get any kind of restriction on any of those ideas. It might help. I didn't intend for this to go into a gun control issue, as it will get locked and I don't do the Gungeon. Really, this is a crime story.

But I think your idea is practical and logical and might bring more community input into the sale of guns that is not happening now. I doubt any Gungeoneers would object, as they believe in gun control but not prohibition.

What good is all our Homeland Security when we allow things like this to happen.

We claim to be a Judeo-Christian nation. Why don't we have a culture that values patience and forgiveness?

Guns would not be an issue if we simply valued patience, developed it in ourselves and forgave ourselves and others more readily.

The anger that pervades our society is the result of impatience, meanness and the unwillingness to forgive. What is the solution for that? Certainly not more vindictive religious rhetoric. And increased law enforcement won't do it either. Overly dramatic TV shows make it worse. Any ideas, DUers?

6. What comes to mind for me

when violence comes to a peak like this, and all too frequently these days, is that we as a people, as individuals need to work with those around us to seek more peaceful endeavors. Convince each other that there is more to life than the latest violent game, TeeVee show, popular music, movies and try to wean each other off the blood-lust and adrenaline rush of anger and resulting angry reactions. Stop buying the products that promote this.

Adrenaline appears to be the drug of choice these days, a drug that desensitizes most and allows for a skewed rationale that finds acceptance for bringing harm to others, regardless of the species. But since we are dealing, today, with the ruthless death of so many children, we need to focus on how we can start acting like our lives and those of others have meaning for ourselves and those we claim to care about and showing it to each other through our words and actions.

That's what comes to mind in my world at the moment with regard to your question.

9. I just told my

good friend and neighbor about the incident, he was wondering if it was a veteran. I told him I didn't think it was, he was astounded. This guy is the age of his children. We were just talking about this sort epidemic last evening.

I hope that many will consider concepts like I mentioned. I just hope and ask... perhaps the Ravens will help spread the words.
