(9,236 posts)NOW i can see what an influence he was on MY playing. THIS SOLO- the repeated, altered themes, the hanging on to a note that's slightly dissonant- yet in key- and riffing off it... wow!
I hated Paul Desmond's tone as a kid... writing it off as too smooth and mellow. I preferred a sax that screamed. Now i get it... this solo actually made me weep with joy.

(25 posts)to see Mr. Brubeck and his sons several years ago at Coe College in Cedar Rapids Ia. It was a fantastic show and everyone was so pleased and appreciative.
Rest in peace Mr. Brubeck and thank you for everything.
