Geraldo Pleads With Fox News: ‘Stop This Politicizing’ Of Libya

http://thinkprogress.org/security/2012/10/26/1094771/geraldo-to-fox-stop-this-on-libya/

An impassioned plea to halt the politicization of the attack in Benghazi came from surprising quarters this morning. Fox News’s Geraldo Rivera, appearing on Fox and Friends, rattled through several right-wing talking points about what the Obama administration could have and didn’t do during the Sept. 11 assault, debunking each of them.

Rivera was primarily responding to statements just minutes before by Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), who sits on the House Government and Oversight Committee. In his remarks, Kelly claimed that the Pentagon was unable or unwilling to respond to the attack, which wound up killing four Americans, despite “real-time” information coming in. Rivera pushed back on Kelly’s claims and the idea that military assets could have made it to Libya in time:

RIVERA: I think we need to stop this politicizing, we’re getting away from the real issue, which is why wasn’t there security before it happened. But these preposterous allegations, reckless allegations, that somebody — They paint a picture of some fat bureaucrat watching TV. You heard him describe it, Congressman Kelly. I think that’s really beyond the pale.

I never had a high opinion of Rivera, but I must admit that he did show independence and strength during this segment. Good for him.

The way FOX "News" was reporting it was the Bush Administration was doing a great job responding to Katrina but the blacks were running wild and looting and the national guard was needed to round them up or put them down like animals. Then Sheppard Smith and Geraldo went there and discovered the truth. After this segment Hannity went back to claiming there was mass looting and rape and some in the right wing were even claiming there was cannibalism. It was a concerted campaign to reenforce the racist opinion that black people are at their core a bunch of savage animals with just a veneer of civilization that was easily peeled away by the slightest thing.

The sad thing is, there are still people that believe all that crap about what went down.

BTW: The checkpoint mentioned that was turning people around was guarding an area that was predominantly white. The damn water was still on over there. The people in the stadium were being told to turn back at gunpoint when they could have been allowed to fill water bottles from a nearby garden hose.
